In short: Nice family festival of running In full: Well organised event again by the Orpies. Given the crossing of the A21 and also Shire Lane twice, it took a lot of marshals to police the 10 k event and put up with the usual impatient motorists but they were all encouraging and friendly.
This is a tough 10k without the midsummer midday heat so the organisers might consider bringing it forward by an hour or so in future.
Loved the children's events and location on a schools field.
In short: A good day out with a great atmosphere In full: A good value race £10 unaffiliated, very well marshalled by the Orpington Road Runners. It's a mainly off road race with some undulating terrain. I'll give it another go next year. Date of review: July 5, 2010
In short: hilly, off road, well organised. In full: my own performance was a shocker - but can't blame that on the race. Nice course, plenty of off-road sections. Hilly in places so probably not a PB course.
Well organised race, good facilities in the school (showers, etc). The junior 2k events make this very family friendly and the good weather helps!
In short: Definitely challenging with the heat and hills but recommended! In full: This is definitely not a PB course so the best thing to do is accept that from the start and enjoy the challenge! This was my 5th 10k and my worst time, but given the very hot temperatures and the hills I still felt that I'd achieved something.
Nice to do an off road and scenic route and the marshalls were very encouraging. The atmosphere was very good and the race was well organised. No queues for toilets and a nice medal at the end. Date of review: July 4, 2010
In short: Hot, hilly, nice race officials, not so nice car drivers! In full: Ok, so I was optimistic thinking I might get a pb here - third ever 10k and not sure how undulating it would be... Really nice support crew, especially welcome at the water stations. Some of the drivers were getting a bit shirty where runners had to cross roads though. Overall great fun - a real test of semi-beginner fitness.Yes, I'll be back next year (adfter more hill training! Date of review: July 4, 2010
In short: Great fun In full: I was really dreading this race, having read that the course is really hilly, but I really enjoyed it (despite having to walk several times on the uphill!). Bottleneck at the start of the course (single file), which was probably very frustrating for the more serious runners and generally difficult to overtake during a large part of the course, but the sceneray is wonderful and well worth taking the time to enjoy. Most of it is under cover of the woods, so heat wasn't a problem. The atmosphere was great, the course was challenging, the marshalls were fantastic and thanks again to the girls encouraging the runners half way through the 9th Km! Too bad we had to leave so early after then end of the race. Would love to run this course again, it's real fun. Date of review: June 24, 2009
In short: Quite hilly in parts, lovely running in the shade of the woods, a bit of a shame there is a bottleneck at the start of the race where runners enter the woods; nice school fete atmosphere. Thank you. Date of review: June 24, 2009
