In short: My first marathon, found it challenging, and I hated running uphill against a 88mph wind! In full: My first marathon, apparently Luton is a tough marathon. Alot of inclines, made extremely difficult my the torrential wind (weather broadcast said the wind were 88mph....) so I kept getting blown backwards and sideways by the wind, which sapped alot of energy from me... the wind was terrible, it grew stronger and stronger throughout the race... by 3rd lap... ..... .... !!!!!!!
Anyway, this was an experience, and I took my time as it was my first. I thikn it is a difficult race for a beginner (I am one), but if you can do this race, u can pretty much do any flat marathon =)
I dont know if I will put myself through the same torture again.... lol maybe once my sore muscles heal, maybe I will forget the pain and maybe I will do the marathon again
The marshals were sweet, one gave me sweets to keep me going! I wish they all had sweets on them, sweets are a lifesaver. All the runners were friendly and supportive even though I couldnt talk to them cos I was worried I might not have enough energy to reach the end.
The route was challenging, because the weather was crap... my mind did not really take in the environment, it was pretty much ordinary to me (I guess cos I did 3 laps of the same route, so it seems dull)
I would definately recommend anyone to do this marathon, mb once for experience at least!
In short: Good day, well organsed, shame about wind but lucky there was no rain! In full: 2nd time I've done this event, and the hills didn't seem any easier even though I knew they were coming! We were lucky there was no rain which would have been very demoralising, but the strong wind did its best to sap everyone's strength. I don't mind the course although it is always up and down (which makes me cramp near the end) .. but there's not a lot of spectators so its a bit bleak (marshalls are great though and organisation good too). I'm not sure how good this is for beginners .. or if I'll do it again. Date of review: December 4, 2006
In short: The marshalls and organisation made this race for me. In full: Wanted to fit in another marathon before the end of the year and really glad I did. Three laps are hard work but once you are on the last one you can smile and say thanks to the wonderful marshalls! I reckon I will be back. Date of review: December 4, 2006
In short: My second year of running this ,it has just become my favorite race In full: Ran this again best marshaling/organisation for a marathon that is not classed as a major event, I thought the encouragement and friendlines was second to none, challengeing course. well done to all. In short: Some tricky hills but very good race In full: Relay is a good idea, some nice scenery out in the country and some built up areas. Good Atmos and will do again Date of review: December 4, 2006
In short: Good organisation and well marshalled. In full: The wind made it a little unpleasant at times and there are a few hills that i forgot about. Otherwise a well organised and well marshalled race. Date of review: December 4, 2006
In short: Well organised and well marshalled. Undulating certainly and the scenery quite variable. Quite a quick course, but this year the high wind made life quite difficult. Date of review: December 4, 2006
