In full: Assuming that you get into a decent place at the start this race cannot be beaten for PB potential. Getting where you need to be at the start is the challenge though - I learnt this last year so turned up extra early this year - not really the organisers fault - problem mainly caused by people being a tinsy bit optimistic about their times I feel!
Being a boring race I broke a golden rule of mine and ran this race with my i-pod.
That said the organisers do a good job on the whole - the sheer volume of people milling around at the start is the problem - not sure about an extra 2,000 next year - lucky for me I now were all the loos are in Leeds so didn't need to join the dreaded Portaloo queues !

Plenty of encouraging marshalls and some nice touches - the drummers and Help The Aged "cheerleader types" towards the end and the text message with time/position. Also nice quality Tee-Shirt.
After the finish I had to wander around looking for somewhere to deposit my timing chip - thanks to the nice chap for letting me know!
Back next year - nice and early again - and sorry I am keeping my secret toilet location to myself!!

In short: Boring route - good job it's only 10k
In full: This is my first 10k, and if I ever do one again, I doubt it would be this one. Providing a dozen portaloos for 8000 runners could leave you caught short, and leaving some of them on the back of the truck is almost criminal! Very few spectators en route which meant a lack of atmosphere, and the straight out and back route was dull. No goody bag, but a reasonable T shirt. I found myself struggling to hold on to my T shirt whilst undoing my laces to remove my chip, so a bag would have helped. Even the luggage labels were hand made; cost cutting at every opportunity? I know it's for charity, but of the dozen or so races I've done, I enjoyed this one the least.

In short: Fast flat, great for first timers
In full: Great atmosphere. Liked the text times. Dull route but great for PB's. Price wise, it's a bit on the steep side but it is for a good cause so this shouldn't put people off too much. Tip... there are loads of places nearby to use toilet facilities if you are caught short instead of queuing at the portaloos.

In short: Fairly flat, fast and definate PB potential!!
In full: Very good race, course not very interesting juat a straight out and back but crowds all along the way. The starting pens helped to put people in the right order so walkers were near the back and faster runners near the front. T-shirt, water and lucozade at the finish. Perhaps next year bigger bins for collecting the chips as it wasnt easy to spot someone carrying a bucket!

In short: Great course for a potential PB, weather permitting.
In full: Great event again. Start and finish areas well setup and marshalled. A little difficult to get into start chute, if you take notice of the marshalls. Agree with a previous comment about warmup areas, however I ran backwards down the course and managed 1.5 miles with strides, no problem. Much better getting the Tshirt on the day this year. Water and Lucozade drinks provided at the end were a great touch. Good support from the public and the course marshalls along the entire course. I will definitely do this again. I shaved 16 seconds off my PB this year, but this has potential for whole lot more if it hadn't been so windy.

In short: Flat but unispring course but worth it for PB
In full: Main problem at start was shortage of loos. 20 minutes before start there were still half a dozen on the back of a truck.
Access to start area was fine though relied on runners honesty to place themself in right area. Course flat and there must have been plenty of PB's. I beat mine by 3 1/2 minutes (although to be fair I've only done 3 !)

In short: Poor organisation lets down a fast run
In full: Well...I can't believe the lack of organisation! There were about 4 toilets and the queues were ridiculous, some people were waiting for ages whilst some just jumped into the loos that were overlooked as they were next to the mens urinals. It was a free-for-all! There was an overkill of barriers which, when combined with lots of people, just caused chaos - I couldn't get anywhere I needed to be! Also the information said town centre parking was free... the one we parked in wasn't! No worries, tho - it's to be expected in Leeds. I loved the run, flat and fast for a PB and my partner smashed his PB by about 5 minutes! I also loved the text telling me my time straight after the run - but my partner never recieved his? Perhaps it was because, on finishing the run, more chaos ensued as you tried to track down a bucket to put your chip in! If Help the Aged are considering a further 2,000 places next year they need to seriously look at on-the-day organisation. If it improves I'll certainly be there next year to get that pesky 48 seconds of my time!

In short: Well organised fast race.
In full: Very fast race which is lucky as it's not the most interesting route!! I found it very well organsied and the atmosphere was great. This was the first time I have run this race since 2004 and the route has changed quite a bit which makes it that little bit faster.

In short: Rating for 2009 race!!!!
In full: This just may be getting too big - I know Help the Aged make lots of money, and I know it's great for new runners to have a bash, but to have only one way into the start pens (from the back) and nowhere to warm up (unless standing still aerobics is your thing) then for club runners looking at actually running the thing then it's not the best. Very fast, chip timing, closed roads etc make it brilliant - but nowhere near enough toilets (I had to run "fully loaded" - sorry...), and that daft start system that meant pushing through thousands of people to get anywhere near the right place meant it wasn't the event it used to be. And then they say they want 2,000 MORE next year???
