In short: Fast and flat In full: This is definitely the marathon to do for a PB - although I did find it so flat my legs ached more than usual as they had no variety of terrain to shake them up a bit! The marshalls were fantastic especially as they could see I was struggling with cramp and they all offered support and encouragement. Highly recommended if you want to get a good time at a friendly race with a great atmosphere. Thanks guys! Date of review: October 18, 2010

In short: My first marathon, but not my last In full: A really well organised race. The marshalls in particular were absolutely great - every single one of them was encouraging despite having stood around in the cold for the first hour or so of the race. I really didn't mind the industrial estate. In fact, it was good to be able to spread out across the road without having to contend with any traffic and the Milton water station crew were some of the noisiest support on the day. There was, in fact, a good variety of road, country lanes, housing estate, town centre and then the grandstand finish on the track. Brilliant stuff! And then, on top of that, a goody bag that one or two big city races could learn a thing or two from. (Bristol half organisers, take note!) The best Mars bar I've ever eaten. In short: First return to Abingdon for three years - had forgotten just how good it is. Loved the new course In full: The benchmark event with just the right balance between clubby and mass participation. There's enough runners for company but also space to run your own race. First time on the new course, which I loved - the Milton industrial estate just made me appreciate the scenery even more. Organisation was spot on. Thanks to all the marshalls, the team dispensing tea and biccies and also for the technical top - a great idea which has saved me buying one for this winter so great value too.
If there was one change to improve it even further, I would move the start back a few metres and get rid of the meandering path on the return in to Tinsley Park and just run on to the track as per the out lap. Date of review: October 18, 2010

In short: Excellent, safe, friendly, great marshals In full: Excellent safety mostly on pavements, off-road tarmac tracks or very quiet roads. Where one had to cross roads, was well protected my marshals and traffic control signs. Great marshalling both in numbers and encouragement. Frequent drink stations. Nice start and finish on an athletics track. Others have commented on the industrial estate - yes, not very interesting, but it was to keep us safe from having to cross so many rounabouts, particularly the one where we turned left onto the Sutton Courtney road. In short: Well organised and great support from the marshals In full: Thanks to all the marshals for some great support and for turning up in the freezing cold at the start. It was really well organised. The only small improvement I would suggest is having a few signs when you enter the park at the end to give you an idea that the finish line is coming up. I'll be back to do this one again! Date of review: October 18, 2010

In short: perfect conditions, great marshalls, shame about the showers! In full: A very well organised race with plenty of very helpful marshalls. Very scenic in parts, exluding the 2 laps of the industrial estate! conditions were perfect, cold and bright and the finish around the track a nice touch. Only negatives: the ladies showers were scolding hot and dangerous :-( and the medal was a bit sub-standard but other than that, a great event. Hope to be back next year! In short: A really well run event for those who want to run fast. In full: I have to mention the numerous marshalls who made this a really good race - very cheerful and helpful. A flat course and perfect weather combined to help me (and, I suspect, many others)towards a new PB. But the race is also worth doing for its own sake. Date of review: October 18, 2010
