In short: Fantastic race - big feel, small field In full: Firstly I cannot believe there were only 430 runners! The race had a big feel to it, so I thought it must have been more like 700. I say big feel due to the great facilities provided and the stadium start and finish. I have run the previous Sheffield Half marathon twice where they used Don Valley (RIP) which adds to the enjoyment. Also, it gives accompanying spectators somewhere to be with refreshments available. The other reason why the race has a big feel, in my opinion, is the fantastic goody bag! Allsorts of foody bits (thanks to ASDA partnership) great t-shirt and commemorative 10 year medal. Absolutely stonking value! I am struggling to think of a race with such good value.
The race itself is mostly flat or downhill with two mammoth hills! First one at about 5.5 miles is about 500m in distance, but the climb is energy sapping. The second hill at about 10.5 miles is shorter in distance but steeper, and at this point in the race it is a real killer! Great scenery, would have been a bit better in the sunshine, but lovely nonetheless.
Challenging due to the hills, therefore, if you are a first timer (altogether or to this course), make sure you do plenty of hill running!
Overall fantastic course, a little challenging with the two hills but I can see why it is in the top 10! Great work guys! Date of review: March 15, 2015
In short: Flat Canal and hills In full: Nice starting in the stadium even though caused a brief congestion when leaving, but as its 13.1 mile hope no-one complained. Lovely stretch on the canal, then 2 "challenging" hills. Great support, medal, technical top and good bag, but the only negative and I hate it... please please please do not have paper in plastic cups! Date of review: March 15, 2015
In short: A really well organised event. In full: A fabulous course - challenging in places but you forget this once you enter the track for a classic stadium finish. Once across the line you were rewarded with a fantastic teccy T shirt and a well stocked goodie bag. You might also be lucky to get a beer as a spot prize as well. Well done Grantham AC Date of review: October 14, 2014
In short: Excellent. In full: Half marathon in home town. Well done to organisers. Not the best for PB 2 massive hill climbs! But challenging enough. Good course; well organised, plenty of marshals and excellent goody bag! Deffinately will do 2015! Date of review: October 6, 2014
In short: Great organisation, lovely route on road through the countryside and friendly atmosphere. A great run to do and much more relaxed than the bigger 1/2's out there. Date of review: March 19, 2014
