In short: Really enjoyable experience In full: Well organised, well marshalled and well supported! This is the second GSR and the level of organisation and support continues to impress me. Back again next year Date of review: October 30, 2012

In short: Great run on a cold morning In full: This was my 2nd GSR and I have found them both to be very well organised. I travelled from Gosport on the ferry and walked to the start. I would recommend this route to miss the traffic in Portsmouth and as a great way to warm up before the start. There is good support all around the course. It is a great race for beginners. In short: loved it, loved it, loved it In full: this was my 3rd bupa run this year following the great north and great birmingham and was one of my favourite runs of the year.weather was kind considering the forecast and great crowd support along the whole route.lovely scenery running round hms victory and hms warrior and along the sea front on the last 2 miles.definate pb potential if you get in the right wave.is expensive but a great goody bag with powerade, water, space blanket, tshirt, plenty of food and the all important medal.bit dissapointed that the medal was same 2012 design as great north and great birmingham (and after a bit of research.. the same as great manchester and great yorkshire 10k's).will definitely be back tho.very highly recommended Date of review: October 30, 2012

In short: worth a weekend away In full: decided to bring the whole family and make a weekend of it in Chichester on the Saturday followed by discount shopping at Gun Wharf Quay so no traffic problems for me (but a £12 parking fee). As for the race this was my first GSR - my wife did two before - and I found it really enjoyable, the spectators were great (lots of high-fiving kids) and most runners approached it with the right spirit although I also don't understand why people who want to walk after 2.4k would put themselves in the orange pen and add that pressure! Likewise the more 'serious' runners should ensure they're there early enough to get to teh front of the pens so that they don't cut people up in the first 2k (they should know better). Overall a good weekend! Date of review: October 30, 2012

In short: A top race In full: The positives. Fast, flat 10 miler, PB potential, superbly organised, great crowd support, great marshalls and very beginner friendly. Yes, people are overly optimistic and go in the wrong waves, walk in the first mile etc, but I don't mind (even if I am stuck behind them).
I would rather people make the effort to get off their backside, get involved and hopefully find a passion for running. It also raises loads for charity :-)
The negatives - it's expensive, but it's iconic, so I'll be back Date of review: October 30, 2012

In short: This is a must-do every year In full: I love the Great South Run. It's one of only two races in the calendar I vow to do every year. This year was the hat-trick for me and I'm already looking forward to 2013.
GSR is not only geared for the elite-y PB chasers but the fun runners and newbies as well which makes it the perfect fit-for-all race. I started out as a running novice and am slowly working my way up to PB-chaser status (although still far from elite!)
It's a flat course. V flat. And takes in the historic dockyard and the lovely Southsea seafront via the city centre (ish) where there are plenty of spectators to keep your spirits up when your legs begin to tire. The atmosphere - even on this year's nippy day - is always upbeat.
There have been a few gripes about the medal but I have no complaints. I love how they're all different enough for you to pick out the race they belong to without seeing the date, but same-y enough to know they're all from the GSR.
I'll be back next year for more miles and more bling! Date of review: October 29, 2012

In short: Average race In full: To be honest, I've participated in better races. Yes there's a lot of cheering which is brilliant but the scenery was a bit dull and as for the price; waaaaay too much for an average 10 miler. My sister did it for the first time this year and she also thought it wasn't anything overally special for the same reasons. On a more personal note, I'm not interested in PBs and like off road hilly races, hence why I didn't give this one a particulary good score.

In short: Excellent PB Potential In full: Thoroughly enjoyed this race!! A flat and quick course means excellent PB potential! Brilliantly organised for such a big event. Lovely medal and nice to have a goody bag that atually contains food rather than just leaflets! Shame about the t-shirt, which you would probably only wear to sleep in or for decorating!! The downside is that its really expensive!! Also, unless you leave really early and park on the edge of the city, getting in and out of Portsmouth with that many people is a nightmare! Having said that, it's a brilliant day and no doubt I will be back again in the future!! Date of review: October 29, 2012
