In short: A good race despite weather and long queues at the beginning for toilets. Will be back next year. In full: No chance of a PB as I was put in the final wave despite having a fairly quick run last year. Enjoyed race however and a good atmosphere despite the weather. Spent 40 mins queuing for the loos - organisers please improve next year. Goody bag could be better for the entry fee. Will be back again next year, hopefully with better weather conditions. In short: Flat course wtih PB potnetial if you dont get stuck in the last wave! In full: I had high hopes of a PB despite the weather but starting in the last wave I spent the first three miles stuck behind all the slow runners and walkers from the previous two waves - and weaved around the masses for the next seven!!! Must have run 11 miles I reckon! Please if you are going to walk do not do it four abreast hand in hand in the middle of the road. Some people try and run!!!! The organsisers should use the waves to group those with similar predicted finsih times - it's not rocket science surely!!!! Other than lat course not as scenic as made out and could do with changing areas at the finish - especially useful in the monsoon conditions experienced this year. Date of review: October 29, 2006
In short: Wet, wet, wet... In full: This was my first Great South Run and I was really looking forward to it especially after missing the deadline last year. Great PB potential and my husband was lucky enough to get one. I wasn't pushing it too much as I completed my first marathon only 4 weeks ago. I managed to finish in a reasonable time (missing my PB by 1min49) despite the horrible conditions. This race was well enough organised, but I think there should have been time zones within each wave. This would make it easier for the faster and slower runners. It's a shame that only just over 11'000 runners completed the race (out of 18,000). Even though this is the biggest 10 mile race in the UK it didn't seem like such a big race to me. There were areas where there was no crowd at all (probably because of the weather...) and the scenery wasn't always spectacular. In Short: it was a good experience for stamina building (getting used for the winter runs in windy and wet weather...). I would like to thank the crowd who was there to cheer us on and also the bands who kept us going.
In short: The weather made it very memorable! In full: It was well organised & many things were particularly appreciated , eg the space blanket..but a special thankyou to the crowds & to the numerous bands that kept me going !! Date of review: October 28, 2006
In short: Never miss it! Fantastic event. In full: Fantastic again! Weather made it more interesting than usual. The only thing i ask is that if you are going to run slowly, please stand at the back of the wave. Date of review: October 27, 2006
