In short: What else could you want from a marathon? In full: Loved this race. It is now my pb race and the first time I've got sub 4 so if you train for the hills it's there for the taking (and you can more than make up the time on the downhills). The atmosphere is uplifting and the 10-in-10ers utterly humbling. I would also recommend taking advantage of the B&B offer to stay at Brathay - it makes it all the more civilised that your shower is 100yds from the finish! Date of review: May 20, 2013
In short: Spectacular scenery, Wonderful marshals but wow,the hills! In full: This is a wonderful event, really well organised. But it is tough & the hills made the last few miles a walk/ hobble! Lovely scenery and the marshals & helpers were just wonderful. Can't thank them & the organisers enough.
In short: Beware this route is extremely hilly. It starts off hilly getting hillier, very challenging. Stewards and staff were fantastic. By far tougher than the average marathon or running route I am used to. Date of review: May 20, 2013
In short: Ouch! In full: Fantastic race but beware the hills! Wasn't sure about how hilly this was as the reviews were indifferent but it is very hilly - Absolutely loved the first half (even though the 1st half was hilly), but being fresh expected this - second half though was, for me, where it got tough - especially between 14-18 miles - even the downhills were becoming hard! (seemed to be going either up or down between these miles.) 1st half ran in 1:50 - capitulated in the second half, but finished with a big smile in 4:20. Definitely a race worth running. In short: Brutal, demanding and one to be proud of. In full: This was an excellent race. Only my second full marathon as I primarily only run the halfs and mud runs- this really challenged me, still got well under 4 hours know which was nice! Date of review: May 20, 2013
In short: Awesome race, great organisation, great scenery and a medal that's gorgeous. In full: Done this as my 4th Marathon distance race in 7 weeks. Was very worried having read the reviews about the hills and how tough this would be... However this is a great race, tough for a beginner but a big field makes it doable. It's such a beautiful race, stunning scenery throughout, one word of caution is that the roads are not completely closed, after about 8 miles your on quite narrow roads with traffic. Of course this is fine if drivers give you the respect you deserve. Most drivers were immense but as usual it only takes one, and one got so close to me I felt the wind, just a small point though and it didn't detract from a fantastic day. The medal is a slate medal very large, and gorgeous, I'm really really impressed by this medal and I have a few. Possibly my all time fav Date of review: May 19, 2013
