In short: There was generally excellent organisation despite previous reviewer's commentss
In full: I agree with previous reviewer's comments re sea front. However, that said we got tremendous support from the people there. The lack of seafront mileage markers aside this event was organised excellently - smooth start, very friendly marshalls and drinks stations about every 2 - 3 miles for marathon runners, which was needed in the warmth today. Was it me or did this affect others' times? The route was flat but a little monotone. Overall well done - I can see this festival of running increasing in popularity, especially if it avoids clashing with the Robin Hood equivalent.

In short: The course was flat as promised but
In full: The course was flat as promised but this advantage was ruined by dodging cars in the town centre and pedestrians on the sea-front. The miss the last 4 mile markers and was given conflicting information on distance left by marshalls.
The sea-front would have been improved if signs had been put up asking people to keep to one side or the other, instead of in the middle!
I don't thinks this was worth the money.

In short: Awful
In full: Where do i start! Awful goody bag, one magazine and a stick of rock does not make a goody bag (T shirt and medal basic) Having to dodge members of the public or either didnt know or care that there was a race on. Marshalling towards end shocking at one juction no signs or marshall so assumed straight on, meant to turn left even then after that not a marshal in sight when options to go left/right or straight on. There are more, one to avoid big time.

In short: 2008 10k Race
In full: Fast runners (not me) were told to collect their medals, tee shirt and goody bag at 1130. Not very good as started at 935 and some had to go elsewhere after (work some!)When I came in at 1035, this problem seemed to have been resolved but met faster runners on way to my car who wanted to know how I had got my stuff!!!
Course was VERY windy for lots of it.This put me off! Goody bag, tee-shirt and medal - Brilliant!

In short: Half Marathon..not bad for the first 12 miles...
In full: then you hit the holiday makers..literally! Most seem oblivious to the runners as we were spread so thin, and i personally made contact with 2 and had to dodge around another half a dozen or so at least(why was the dog on a 10ft lead??!)Apart from this it was good.Definite pb potential, even though i didnt get one :)I didnt see the 12mile marker which would have been nice, but maybe i was too busy hurdling dog leads? It was good to see the finish over the field so you could put in one last effort.Would have been better with more people to chase and maybe a donut stall at the finish 8)

In short: Magic Mabo Does It Again!
In full: 2nd Year, 2nd 10k another PB.
I agree with some that the entry fees are a little steep but come on, a memento like the one received this year, I can forgive them! How many races do you know give away one of those crystal ornament things with the image of a runner breaking the finishing tape inside it?

The race itself was fairly uneventful for me, traking it at s steady pace, once the first 3k or so through the residential streets had passed, was like a training run. On own, trouble catching those infront but just sufficient to keep ahead.
The beauty of the 10k course is that once on the promenade, it's out and back. The serious runners coming back were just concentrating on their run, and who can really blame them!
I was in the other cagtwegory, if I saw someone struggling slightly and looking depressed at yet another runner going back, just shouted to them to keep going and that the turnaround, a real psychological point, was not far away.
The problem with the markers has not seemed to be solved, although this year, aswell as colour coded arrows for the races, distances had been painted on the road in each races colour to aid. But who really looks down unless you are tired or crawling on the road?

The pasta Party the night before was a letdown really. It had been moved to a 'larger venue' but still couldn't get everyone in and they run out of food. This could have been because they did not bank on runners, who like me had made a weekend of it since it is a seaside resort, brought the rest of the family along (unlike me) and fed them too! An idea of numbers for 2008 might be a good idea.
A well organised race that deserves entering at least once. I have been bitten now, and while they organise races in Mablethorpe, I will be there. Half Marathon in 2008 for me! I HOPE!!

In short: Nice event - but expensive for an ordinary road marathon.
In full: False start for the mrathon !
Marshals were friendy and supportive.
Last few miles along the sea front were not too clear - a lot of people about - not many marshals.Reduce the goody bag, keep the Xtra Large and Large t/shirts, and just give one momento - and reduce the entry fee.

In short: Great
In full: Thank you to all concerned with this event. To have a charity event with 3 different races means a club like us (Bearbrook joggers) could have a weekend away and all get involved.we had no problems with toilets, mile markers ,marshalls or anything else and the final 3 miles of the marathon for me was so well supported i thought i was the winner finishing.Once again thank you all at the Mablethorpe Event.

In short: Very friendly marshalls - nice organisation
In full: Few points - charity event - but £25 steep for an ordinary raod maathon.
Mile markers - need to be clearer
Route - quiet country roads - no support, just like my training runs.
T/shirts - why these sizes ?
How many marathon runners are Large or Extra large ?
Marshalls very friendly - bit fraught near the end at the Pullover - it was not all clear where we had to go.
Great effort by the organisers to get this event going - wee done.
