In short: Good Day Out In full: I come from Plymouth and was up racing supercars at Thruxton Race Circuit when I noticed this race advertised on runners world. It ended up being a fabulous weekend, I enjoyed the run and loved the fact that my surname was printed on the Bib number (simple but very effective). I would enter this race again and quite happily make the commute. Date of review: July 18, 2011

In short: Great PB potential! In full: A flat, 3 and a bit circuits, of the race track. Very well organised with a really nice medal at the end. A good mix of abilities and a nice number of people taking part. Good race to get a new PB. Not much scenery to look at but a nice change to run on a race track. Good parking and there are loos (which as the last person said were really dirty). Chip with lap times was good. Would do again to try and get a better time. Date of review: July 18, 2011

In short: Very well organised In full: A well organised event that went very smoothly, no queues for anything. The 3 and a bit laps were flat and not as boring as I thought it would be. I'm glad I gave it a try and would recommend doing it once. The only negative is that all the loo's were filthy Date of review: July 17, 2011

In short: One of the best 10k races in the West In full: This was the fifth time I have run in a dbMax 10k race at Castle Combe and so I pretty much know what to expect. The event takes place three times a year (Feb, Aug, Nov) and runs along the same lines each time. The entry procedure is straightforward, the arrangements for registration and collecting race numbers are very easy and the chip timing system used is first class. Will Whitmore continues to use his megaphone to good effect (I just wish he would lend it to other Race Directors more often, though.)
As I have written before, the venue is great. Castle Combe has good on-site parking, excellent facilities and good spectator galleries. The course itself, on the motor racing track, is brilliant and the race experience can be marred only by a headwind on the back straight.
There are occasional gremlins and on this occasion there were problems with the order for finishers' medals. As usual, the organisers took great pains to keep everyone informed and my medal duly turned up in the post a couple of days later.
My only disappointment was that the race was not registered with UK Athletics and so the results were not eligible for inclusion on the Power of 10 database. This is a shame, although I acknowledge that it results from a change in policy by the guys at Power of 10 and not necessarily from any action by dbMax.
This time round, I ran the 10k 30 minutes after finishing the Duathlon, which was a new experience, and it made the day into an interesting challenge. Most enjoyable! Date of review: March 27, 2011

In short: Flat, Fast! In full: As a regular runner of this race, me and my husband also take part in the duathlon beforehand and add this on for endurance training. As usual, the organisation was good, yes it was a shame about the medals but these things happen. Not sure why the GIANT COLA BOTTLES were plugged so well, they were ok. Please get rid of the GIANT STRAWBERRYS they were far too tough to chew!! See you again DB Max. Ps, missed the giant dog this year! Date of review: March 4, 2011

In short: My 2nd 10k here, thought it was brilliant and will probably be back In full: I remain impressed by the timing system, far better than a lot.
The weather wasn't great but due to the location is was far from being a problem.

In short: Pre-race organization quite poor. In full: On the day, the organization was good. The race briefing was exceptionally clear, however, there seem to have been big omissions pre-race. 1: The race was not licensed with UK Athletics so UK Athletics/power of 10/runbritain do not recognize it. 2: I know many runners were disapointed that the promised medals didn't materialize. 3: The organizers can't even decide what the race is called, sometimes, Chilly 10k other times Polar 10k and other varaiations. Much of the race technology was very good, with real time results, lap splits, individual printouts. In general, a good event but which could easily have been so much better.
