In short: nice race-lovely to start and end in the stadium In full: It was great to have a 9am start to this race. My only gripe was the toilets, which ran out of paper and hand wash before the race started. I also had to download the race info from the web as very little information was sent with the race numbers. A great beginners race though, clearly marked with milage written on the paths as well as on signs. Lovely to finish going downhill! Date of review: July 20, 2009
In short: Good organisation and support all round. In full: Have done the race a few times,so I'm familiar with the race day routine. However, if you hadn't done it before, there didn't seem to be much in the way of instructions, map etc, sent out with your race number. A minor whinge. Still a great race! In short: An enjoyable half with just enough to test the legs In full: I have done this race the last few years. It is well run, marshalling and waterstations excellent. Hilly between 3-6 miles then flat to 9 miles last 3 miles downhill. Great stadium finish. Date of review: July 20, 2009
In short: My First half well organised In full: Being my local run and my first half well pleased with the result the fact that i run past my house on the downhill stretch makes it well worthwhile well organised run although the medal was pretty poor i thought would def do again next year lots of cheering from residents uplifting hill at 9 was tough although i thought it would be worse my knees hurt today they have never done before lots of pavement pounding the gusty weather helped enormously will do again next year only other gripe is timings i was at least 25/30 secs quicker as did not cross line on start time as i was at back chip timings maybe Date of review: July 20, 2009
In short: Well organised with excellent marshalls + good provision of water In full: Very enjoyable Sunday morning run on a undualting route cover both rural and town. Police support to marshalls stopping traffic made for a safe and fast run. Very good start and fast finish at the track. Enjoyed sitting on the grass watching the finishers come in. Even the slighly windy conditions were not too bad Date of review: July 20, 2009
In short: Well organised, interesting race in pleasent surroundings In full: My first half marathon, and it's got quite a clubby feel, with lots of runners from a few local athletics clubs. Despite that, it doesn't feel cliquey or unnatractive to outsiders. The timing seemed odd to me, with no chips meaning that timing must have all been done manually, and presumably there cannot have been any allowances made for people at the back of the pack who crossed the start line later. It's not a big deal, but I'd have liked more information about exactly how the timing is done. Aside from this, the race was very well organised with great marshalling, lots of help from Kent police, plenty of distance markers and well spaced drink and sponge stations. Also a fair bit of support from local residents who popped out of their houses to cheer us as we went past, which was nice.
The course is slightly hilly in places, so is unlikely to be the fastest 1/2 marathon you could do, but it's nothing too difficult.
All in all, a great first 1/2 Marathon and one I would gladly do again. Date of review: July 20, 2009
