In short: Fantastic route, top marks for organisation and lovely cakes! In full: This race goes down as my favourite 10k. Easy to get to, easy to park nearby, very friendly chatter before the start and managed to queue up for the loo and deposit bags in plenty of time. The course itself is a very well chosen route, mostly off road through good woodland/fieldside paths with not too much opportunity for ankle twisting- like a sort of cross country-lite course which was a great introduction to a mixed terrain race for me. Also it was incredibly well-marshalled: no fear of taking the wrong turn. There was plenty of water at 2k, 4k and 6k with the option of bottles or just a cupful. Even on the road bits we were kept away from the traffic and safely waved across where crossing the road was required.
The finish was particularly well-organised though with a field of only about 500 you'd not expect too many hold ups. We were quickly provided with medal and water and excellent home made cakes and tea or coffee were available - I paid a very cheap 80p for a lemon-iced fairy cake and a cup of instant, once I'd retrieved my bag, which only took 5 minutes.
All in all it was a great morning out and well worth doing. Should also note that a proportion of the race fees (and the cake money) goes to a local charity which was also very good to see. I don't think it's a course for 10k PBs but that's not the point to this race really. Definitely recommend it and I'll be doing it again next year. Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: A good fun run with great scenery and interesting features In full: A mixture of road and woodland running which was very enjoyable. The route went past the day light saving memorial in Petts Wood which added to the theme of the race. The marshelling was very good and the route allowed spectators to walk beteen the start, and the woodland section and back to the finish - very well designed! Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: Lovely undulating route, nothing too scary, wonderful marshalls - well done Petts Woods! In full: Lovely friendly race, wonderful support for those of us at the back, nothing too challenging terrain-wise, and even water in bottles. What more could you want? And only a mile from home (what a bonus!) Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: Great fun, but tough terrain In full: An enjoyable race, but definitely not a quick one. The hills, off-road tracks and stairs at the start mean that this is a good Sunday run and very friendly, but not a serious race. Date of review: October 14, 2007
