In short: Great day out for everyone In full: I was expecting something special and the race lived up to my expectations and beyond. Great terrain, views, atmosphere, but what really makes it is the train. The family were able to watch the race and cheer on the runners rather than waiting for a few hours on a wet playing field. On a personal level I got a huge sense of achievement from this race.... but maybe that's because I beat the train! Date of review: August 20, 2007

In short: totally awesome, still on a high!!! In full: been looking forward to this one for ages, and was well worth the wait. not a pb course but who cares, it was challenging and unforgetable, definately a talking point for a long time to come. another one crossed off the list of top uk races acomplished. one that will be revisited, whatever the weather, next years event already on the agenda. In short: A great weekend away In full: While the day itself is great, the organization both before and post are dreadful. Was a shame to see this year they gave out the same medal and same t shirt as last year (obviously had a job lot) and were un dated. That aside the race itself (and thats why we enter) is fantastic, the support and the marshals are 2nd to none. The support from the train is amazing as well. Having a huge beer tent at the end also makes this one cracking race espcially when run with friends and family. Date of review: August 20, 2007

In short: A brillaint run - I'm glad it rained In full: I ran the shorter course last year and came back for more. This race is at its most enjoyable when off road and throws in a whole mixture of challenges that force you concentrate virtually the whole way. The start is a bit congested but that is testament to the popularity of the race but the crowd starts to thin at the first serious climb and after that overtaking is a balance of opportunity and (remaining) strength. I didn't (and never would) beat the train but it was great to set myself a personal challenge and beat it by 3 minutes. The rain helped keep the course cool - I'd hate to do it on a really hot day. In short: Tough conditions again adding an extra challenge to an already demanding course. Well marshalled, well supported and decent goody bag and prizes. Date of review: August 20, 2007

In short: Brilliant Race! Fantastic mix of 'obstacles', plus the train to beat... In full: Really enjoyed this. Much tougher under foot than I expected, but not as hilly as I'd thought. Wasn't expecting to have to climb gates either. Glad I was in fell shoes, don't know how runners in road shoes kept upright (perhaps they didn't!).
Having the train to try and beat also adds an extra edge, kept me going over the last few miles and I think I might have just beat it - literally by seconds.
Great medal, and the sea was warm enough to wash all the mud off in afterwards!
Would be nteresting to run this when dry from a time point of view, but I bet it wouldn't be as much fun! Date of review: August 20, 2007

In short: A fantastic day – tough but satisfying! In full: What a fantastic race! It had it all; hills, mud, rain, more hills, more mud, a ploughed field, a ford and er.. more rain. What a laugh it was running through the ploughed field; my boots were at least three sizes bigger at the turn! The sheep tracks were fun too. Support was great all through the race. I failed to beat the train (Ah!) but I’m going to have another go. I just need better fitness and a huge dollop of will-power to do it. Date of review: August 20, 2007

In short: A fantactically tough race both physically and mentally In full: I don't quite know what I was expecting before the race. I certainly wasn't expecting one of the toughest runs I've ever done. Saying that, it was also one of the most enjoyable runs I've ever done. I keep remembering extra bits of the course and saying "Oh yeah what about that bit". It had everything! The organisation on the day was a hell of a lot better than I was expecting, and the supporters were all fantastic. Would definately do it again! Date of review: August 20, 2007

In short: A bit of a shock being used to big city half marathons In full: Terrain varied from bog to swamp to steep hills to fords - certainly kept it interesting. Admire those who managed to beat any of the trains - they were so far in front trying again is not currently attractive. But thanks to all the passengers that cheered the runners on - it was certainly memorable; mud stains make it even more so. Date of review: August 19, 2007
