In short: Great for the money! Actually 5.30 Miles. In full: This race was set in a lovely scenic area, running along quiet roads and dirt tracks. There were a couple of good features such as the aeroplanes flying over head, running alongside the runway, a stream through a tunnel and lets not forget the 'killer' hill!
The marshalling could have been better, and I expected better from such a big club. There were cars pushing their way through and driving very close passed people still running (i am happy to say i wasnt one of them...but thats not the point!)..This was a bit dangerous, not to mention rude from the drivers with disgruntled faces.
Dont let the drivers put you off tho as this was only the last section of the race. Perhaps a better area for the finish next time?
I did enjoy the rest of the route and will probably do it again. But this is definately not a PB potential race as it is actually 5.30 miles, NOT 5 miles. No memento but what do you expect for less than a fiver? Date of review: May 9, 2008
In short: Great mid-week evening run In full: a definate for anybody who enjoy small friendly runs. A little over 5 miles it would seem, and apart from a hill that is a bit steep, although fairly short, it is a quick flat course. A presentation at the end in a pub also adds to the character i think, and encourages supporters of the runners to come along too Date of review: May 8, 2008
In short: Very good race - watch out for the monster hill after the tunnel! :-) In full: A very scenic and enjoyable race. My only criticism is that it could be better marked, someone rode past us on a bike near the end and said we had 400 metres to go but up to then we had no idea of how far we had gone so its hard to pace yourself (if you don't have a Garmand anyway!). Then when we were getting to the end, there was a huge crowd stood on the corner so I presumed this was the end so legged it and then found out we had to turn the corner and go up the road to the end!
This is definitely a race I would do again though - people should be aware that it is actually 5.3 miles though as opposed to 5 miles. Date of review: May 8, 2008
In short: Summer evening racing as it's meant to be In full: Great event. I've been critical on these forums about Wilmslows flagship event the Half Marathon before, but this race was everything the HM isn't - great value, very friendly and well organised. The David Lewis 4 run by Wilmslow was a cracker last year also. Well done guys -maybe you should stick to these smaller races?
Very scenic, interesting route and traffic free (aside from the planes!) I'm sure it was over 5 miles though. Would be interested in others views on that.
Why did nobody warn me about the hill after the tunnel though! I took the opportunity with a flat smooth surface to nail it through the length of the tunnel only to be confronted by that hill. Doh! Date of review: May 8, 2008
In short: Challenging but quick trail race In full: Seemed to be twice as many people as last time which is testament to the work done on the first race in creating a great run that people remember. Still not happy with the hill after the tunnel. Took me half a mile to recover. Beat last years time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Date of review: May 7, 2008
In short: Great route and very friendly In full: A good course with lots to see and a few challenges like the hill after the tunnel and a couple of stiles. The tunnel is quite an experience. Very social and great organisation. Date of review: May 7, 2008
In short: Bound To Become More Popular In full: Easy Parking on field; Easy Registration at pub; pleasant country lanes, plus added bonus of running alongside Second Runway watching planes taking-off(!) and running under said runway via the HUGE River Bollin tunnel(!!); mostly tarmac, but with a few bits of trail and grassy path thrown in for good measure; course probably a little long (about 5.3M according to my calculations); I even managed to run the equivalent pace of a 5M PB :) well-marshalled; results & photos both up very quickly.
