In short: Potentially a great race, but depends on a few things being tweaked. In full: First of all before I have a bit of a whinge I'd like to sincerely thank all the little kiddies out on the course at the water stations and various other points, they were so brave to be out in freezing conditions yet seemed so happy to be there. A true inspiration. Also a big thanks to everyone who gave their time to help this race happen from the marshals to the registrars. I know without them these races simply don't happen. However, I was mildly disappointed with the race as a whole. My main gripe is with the medal, it was real poor effort from the organisers. I know opinion is divided between runners as to the importance of a good medal. I'm sure some people just lob it in an old shoe box with all the others but I'm the 'sentimental fool' type who takes pride in these race mementos. I expect more from a half marathon. I also know that a lot of runners will run a greater number of races over the years and many of more importance, grandeur, and significance, but to some completing a half is a massive achievement and could be the biggest race they are ever going to run in? In short I just think the technical t-shirt could be dispensed with and the budget for that spent on the medals. Think of it this way, I could buy a tech t-shirt myself but if I brought and engraved my own medal that would just be weird! Also the facilities for changing and showering etc seemed to be just two tin sheds that were crammed full of spectators trying to avoid the cold weather. So had to change outdoors. Not to mention there were far too few toilets -only 9 portaloos- for a race with 600+ runners. Completely chaotic last few hundred yards! Cars and people everywhere! I don't know how much money the sponsors 'Brett' put into this event or what it's spent on but it's fairly evident where it doesn't go. Aside from that the bag storage was well organised and efficient, the start was punctual and timing impeccable, with results available rapidly. The course is lovely and flat and definite PB potential although the wind on the day coupled with the lack of hedgerow protection from it probably made that hard for most! Of course it's no way the fault of the organisers. Just bad luck.

In short: Well organised race with lots of pb potential In full: Another good race from Nice Work, with t shirt at the end although I think I missed the Jaffa cakes! Cold and windy and would agree that the end was a bit muddled but chip timing and the finish arch good. Results out very promptly Date of review: March 11, 2013
In short: This was my 16th half marathon - worst medal yet! In full: Very clubby race. Even a coach bringing runners from the London area. Terrible medal - looked like something out of a small child's cracker. Got charged the 'on the day' price, even though I applied in advance. Quite muddled at the end - cars and people all over the place. The marshals were gesticulating wildly and shouting at the top their voices to guide runners. Flat and fast - the weather was challenging, but didn't deter anybody. Marshals around the route were very good.
In short: My second year, PB again, so flat and fast! In full: This was my second year running Lydd. It is as a flat a course as you are likely to find which makes for it to be a great place to go for that PB and a good time in your marathon training. Roads are very quiet with very friendly stewards directing and cheering you on. As it is flat and close to the coast it can get a bit windy and it did get a bit stiff at times. Goodie bag great at the end:medal, t-shirt and food. Thoughly enjoyed it again and will be back next year. Date of review: March 11, 2013
In short: Great almost traffic-free PB run. Friendly organisers and great effort from the Guides and scouts In full: Much to my utter shame and embarrassment, I turned up 10 minutes late to this event (Don't rely on Google Maps!) I couldn't fault the organisers in how they dealt with getting me to on my way. On the plus side, I spent the entire run overtaking other runners which was a great confidence boost. Agree that there was little in the way of local support, but at -4 with wind chill that's not too surprising. I would definitely do this event again and thoroughly recommend it as a training run for Spring marathon runners. It's superb value and so quiet and relaxing on the way round. I shaved over 19 minutes off my PB and got in under two hours. Thank you to the marshals, stewards and lovely guides, brownies and scouts who cheered us so magnificently. In short: Flat and quick but open to the elements! In full: Not a fan of a lap round the playing field on grass before venturing out onto the country lanes around Lydd. The flattest race I've done and would have been an even bigger PB had it not been for the relentless wind which seemed to be in your face for the whole race! Very quiet country lanes with a few dodgy patches of muddy track, not much to look at across the marshes. 2013 looked particularly bleak! will pay on the day next year if the weather is better, although that may require a remortgage as its a Nice Work event! In short: Definitely coming back In full: Very well organised race, and absolutely brilliant for those new to half marathons. Although lacking in supporters, the marshalls and volunteers were very positive and encouraging, especially the little ones who seemed to thrive in it all, as was the cute little girl with her saucepan and wooden spoon somewhere around 8 miles! The medal, t-shirt and penguin were well received at the end! Date of review: March 11, 2013
In short: Great pre marathon run In full: As I'm doing Brighton marathon in 4 weeks thought I'd better do my 1st half marathon 1st and I totally enjoyed it ran the whole route without stopping nice flat route. Ppl seemed great some great runners was a bit pushy at the start but once everyone set off to there speeds it was perfect then defintly reccomend this I'm coming back next year. And plus also you can enter on the day as I did because I only found out about few days before it Date of review: March 11, 2013
In short: Fast and flat, well worth a visit In full: Apart from icy winds especially at miles 9 to 13 I enjoyed this race and would definitely return. No problems with parking at The Rype and managed to keep warm at the start in the hut. My only gripe and it is a small one is the finish, i've never run this before so wasn't 100% sure on where I was going due to the amount of spectators walking towards me, not sure how this can be managed maybe more coning off required? All in all very good race and the Jaffa cakes at the end were very welcome!! Must also mention all the little ones and helpers who were out in the freezing cold giving out drinks and support they all deserve a medal!! Date of review: March 11, 2013
