In short: I don't care if it was less than six miles, I had a whale of a time! In full: I have to be honest, if this was 6 miles I doubt I could have run that distance in the time I did on this kind of course, so the people who measured it as shorter might have had a point!
But I'm not grumbling about the odd mile here or there, it was a fantastic event was a highlight of my bank holiday weekend.
The main thing that stood out for me was the number of happy, smiling faces I saw at the end, which you don't always get.
On top of that there was beautiful scenery and views during the race, lots and lots of friendly, encouraging marshals and a sense of camaraderie during the race.
The course itself is as hard as nails and makes for a damn good training run - I was sore the next day, which doesn't often happen nowadays! And the photos of 'that' hill do not do it justice, I've never seen anything like it - and I've done the big dipper!
Fantastic value at £8 on the day and for that you get a quality t-shirt, a free pint at the bar (never seen that before!) plus I was lucky enough to receive a spot prize which turned out to be luxury shower cream, which apparently will transform me into a 'Polynesian Goddess'. I'll believe that when I see it...
I only came this year because I had a free lift from Swindon but probably would make the journey again because it was so much fun. Date of review: April 7, 2010
In short: Mud, hills, excellent atmosphere, I'll definitely be coming back for more! In full: Lots of mud and a crazy hill at the end but it's a really fun run with people of all fitness levels. You get a t-shirt and free pint at the end too! Was gutted I couldn't run it in 2010 due to an injury but having gone with my mates on race day I remembered how much fun it was in 2009! I'll definitely be back next year to take it on again! Date of review: April 6, 2010
In short: Hills, mud, more mud and a great atmosphere! (and mud) In full: Excellent organisation, great atmosphere. The course is tough but great fun and through gorgeous scenery. I'm still relatively new to running but felt very welcome at this event. Definitely the hardest 6 miles I've run, and I ached in so many new places afterwards, but it was worth every pain and every splash of mud (and believe me, there were a lot). Highly recommended. In short: PB for a 10k !!, but garmin made it 4.75m! In full: At 11am race director asked us to rate this on here, expect he'll get some different comments than he thought when he said that!, I understand a marshall directed us wrong way near start, so missed out a mile of hard downhill and the 100 steps! But other marshalls were great and rest of run fun and muddy!!, nice tshirt and pint after, and well done to my friend who lost his shoe in bog and ran race with one shoe on! In short: What happened? In full: Bit disappointed as write-up had said that the 6mile (approx) course had been extended this year but my garmin clocked 4.6 which wasn't even close - i know MT are approx but.....and was it just me or were the 100 steps missing too? Could have done with a hose to rinse off worst of the clag b4 entering the showers Date of review: April 4, 2010
