In short: Great day and will be back next year without a doubt! In full: Just the odd gripe about a good day. Could have done with a 2 minute warning to the start, I had previsouly been told the start would be delayed by 15 minutes by a marshall at the start. So standing in my tracksuit bottoms and jumper I was a bit shocked to hear a 5 second countdown! Only other gripe was the shingle at the end.
This could not detract from a great race with great organisation. I can sum it up with this, it took me 13hrs 15mins, I was hurting from 13 miles out,I had to take Monday and Tuesday off work as I couldn't climb stairs and I get the train. On Sunday night and Monday my wife had to lift my legs for me to get into bed. But I will be back next year without a doubt and am looking forward to it already!!!! Date of review: September 22, 2009

In short: Tough but excellent and rewarding event In full: After failing to finish last year (2008) was determined to come back and get the medal this time around.
Organisation was good, map books were OK, staff at check-points were encouraging and supportive.
It was clear from our experiences last year that a major part of the challenge would be navigating our way, and although we had run the final 20 miles in training and knew that part of the run, of course we went wrong on the earlier sections and lost a fair bit of time and added some extra miles getting back on track.
My only gripe would be the availability of food at the CPs - fortunately we had a supporter so were able to stock up in between, but as one of runners towards the back of the pack there was very little food available as we went through the CPs.
Congratulations to all who finished the race, in whatever time and state!
Well done also to the organisers for putting on a tough and rewarding run which seemed to run more smoothly than last year. Many thanks for staying around & supporting those of us who finished after the 'official' 13 hour cutoff time. Date of review: September 22, 2009

In short: Tough (very tough) but very satisfying race In full: My first ultra but not first trail run and it was tough. The course was great going with some excellent scenery and some very tough hills. The map book provided was acurate (OS maps with course highlighted) so navigation errors could only be blamed on one's self. Other competitors were friendly and running in various packs made it enjoyable.
The finish location was a slight let-down although I heard the organisers of the WhiteAir festival made them move the finish to its location. I guess a 90km off road run wasn't extreme enough for them :-) Date of review: September 22, 2009

In short: superb route, very tough but rewarding In full: This is what running is about, off road, interesting route finding, great scenery, and smaller numbers of runners. Date of review: September 22, 2009

In short: The map book was not as detailed as it could be so navigation difficult at times if you had not recced the route. Feed stations were well below par for an event costing this much and covering 56 miles Date of review: September 22, 2009

In short: Fantastic race, great course, brilliant organisation and marshals. In full: A great day! Brilliant support along the route from the other runners' support crews. Loved the map reading, ran the majority of the race by myself, was 2nd lady and received a big cup! Couldn't be better. Date of review: September 21, 2009

In short: A running gem ! In full: A fantastic race in all respects. The organisation and marshalling were excellent. The crowds and support were really uplifting for an event that is this tough. As my first ultra, and a considerable step up from marathon distance, I loved it and felt supported in all areas.
