In short: Beautiful scenery even along the A20. Unseasonal warm weather was a big + In full: Comfortably undulating after the first climb up the downs around mile 4(?). Beautiful quiet and scenic lanes esp. in the glorious sunshine....but even cold and wet it would have still been a pleasant route. Water/feed stations/marshalls were great. A top event. In short: Great fun with some lumpy bits In full: This race was moved from March to November but was still great fun, lumpy route was challenging at times but enough aid stations along the route. Date of review: November 13, 2011
In short: slightly "curates egg" sort of race, very good in parts, but alongside A20 bit more offish In full: On the plus side, great venue, good organisation, parts of the course very pleasant(I only did the half, so can't comment on the full marathon), plenty of drinks stations, but just didn't like the bits alongside the A20. Not the sort of road I normally run, I thought from the pre race pix some of it might be trails or trax, but not really the case.
Still, my initial impression was might not come back, but, on reflection, was a small race with lots of charm, mainly down to the venue/organisation, so may well run again! Date of review: November 13, 2011
In short: Well organised, great scenery, can't wait till next time In full: I enjoyed this more than I expected to. I did the half this year, but will return to do the full next. Stede Hill was a bit of pain, but otherwise the course was nicey undulating and not too hard - although bizarrely EVERYONE seemed to find the short flat stretch at about 10.3-10.8 miles particularly hard, but no-one could figure out why. Didn't seem like much of a camber, road surface maybe. The scenery was lovely and the route passed some fabulous houses. Race HQ was great and the hotel staff were welcoming and friendly. In short: A good pre-marathon run In full: A good run, very challenging for a first time marathon entrant with the steep Stede Hill at 3 miles in. The lack of runners made it very solitary at points, which meant presonal motivation had to drive you home. Some of the footpath on the side of the A20 very muddy, if the Local Authorities cleared this a bit, would be a fantastic run. Marshalls a bit absent in places, but the refreshments were great, water, bananas, jaffa cakes & hot-cross buns at the finish. Photographer seemed to miss a lot of runners on Stede Hill and then was absent at the finish line for the slower runners to attend the prizegiving. Date of review: April 8, 2010
