In short: more ups than downs! In full: although i thoroughly enjoyed this race i would not recommend it for beginners, the inclines for the first 5/6 miles i found to continue more to 8/9 miles on saying that they were not steep inclines more gradual and didnt leave me panting or red faced or needing st johns ambulance at the end of each one! The declines seemed more noticable which is probs why there seemed to be less of them than inclines! There was loads of road side support round the course which was great and of course the stadium finish got the thumbs up from me! Overall it is a good race to run although a tad pricey and i will be back again next year! Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Lovely course predominantly through the countryside of South Warrington, well managed and supported, track / stadium finish. In full: Something in the course for everyone - uphill first half, downhill second half which either permits you to rest if you overcooked the first half, or put the hammer down. Water stations every 3 miles, well marshalled and well supported along the route but great support in the final 600m as you run back down the start avenue with supporters cheering you on from either side. Parking provision is pretty good, although you may have a long walk back to the car. Downside - lack of baggage claim (promised this year but didn't materialise) Plenty of people will cite cost as a downside - firstly I'm local so my travel costs are minimal, but they also offer a lifetime membership scheme which includes pre and post event activities. So if you don't like the cost but like the course, sign up. Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Excellent Race, would reccomend for next year In full: Great race, brilliantly organised, marshals were fantasic, local were very friendly and supportive, track finish with added touches of a tec tsirt and medal not to mention smashing my pb by 20mins :D Will be back next year and will recommend to beginners and experianced runners a like Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Very well organised race - cheering by locals certainly helped. In full: Well organised race - lots of cheering along the way, which helped. A few hills - mostly uphill untill half way then mostly downhill, but not too steep a gradient. Would definaely do this race again! Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Brilliant event - again. In full: Had a great race here today again - and knocked 3mins off my PB! Really well organised - I didnt like being rationed to 1 bottle of water after race but wasnt limited this year. Good support along course (in patches). Goodie bag was a bit weak but I didnt run it for that. Will definately enter again for next year.
I dont regret for 1 minute doing this instead of the Great North. Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Thoroughly enjoyable In full: Pleasant course, though off road tracks were challenging under foot at times! Loved the stadium finish and the family cheering from the stand! Organisation was good, although not enough toilets in the start area! Date of review: November 7, 2011
In short: Done loads of halfs so was keen to do one relatively local. First 5/6m mostly uphill and quite tough then flattened out but then went on and off road for a couple of miles and then mostly downhill to the end. In full: The off road section really spoiled this race but all the roads were closed so that was offset.
I don't understand why the organisation couldn't post out the chips - you had to collect them the day before in the centre of Warrington or just before the race. For £28 entry, I'd have expected a pre race letter.
The crowds were surprisingly good & vocal. I may do it again, I know it's a Charity race but it is very expensive for what it is. I was 12m off my best so not a fast course - the top 10 times show that. Date of review: October 16, 2011
