In short: a hill tough wind an injury but ni e race In full: This race is a nice varied one with a lqrge well 2 large hills at the start long way down run along the sea front slight drag of run around harbour then back along front to start finish. Apart from the odd finish in which you cross back and forth a few times a good race. Would of been even better without strong wind and an injury but they cant help that! In short: Great Race In full: Killer hill to Beachy Head that really should be reconsidered as it's in no way conducive to running, and again this year I was dizzy running around housing estates -- which also should be reconsidered. Very sharp turns elsewhere, especially at Sovereign Harbour, taking up precious time. This year very strong wind along seafront during final few Ks, making it impossible to really speed up. Very challenging to improve PB, tho I managed 10 mins on last year. Overall however, very enjoyable and a great race. Date of review: March 12, 2014
In short: Friendly well run event that raises a lot of money for charity In full: I have run Eastbourne Half 5 times and each year the event has got bigger with more support. This year there was plenty of cheering and a couple of bands along the way which always lift you. The first bit is my favourite and the hill after 3 miles adds some variety. The worst bit is around the harbour later on in the race as there are quite a few turns and you are mainly running around a housing estate. It would be good to vary the route but I realise this is very hard and it is difficult to close roads, etc. The event is well run and the marshals were good. I wouldn't say it is a very fast course due to the turns in the harbour and the usual winds! I will definitely race again and would recommend this race to first timers as there is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a lot of people raising money for charity. Date of review: March 12, 2014
In full: A nicely organised event with nice coastline scenery along the way. In terms of PB potenitial I would day it's a no go. Firstly with the steep hill between 2-3 miles leading up to Beachy head and secondly due to the strong wind that is present in the last 1.5 miles! My first half marathon competitive race but went 3 minutes quicker in training. Date of review: March 12, 2014
In short: Could be so much better with very minor changes In full: 2014 was my second EB Half, and my debut running event in 2013 other than parkrun. Being local I feel obliged to take part, although that may change if improvements aren't forthcoming. It's a fairly straightforward course, with a hill that increases in steepness at about mile 3 for 1 mile.
First half of the race is very scenic as you run along the seafront and up towards Beachy Head. As soon as you turn off the seafront towards the harbour at about 8 miles your head starts playing games, and it is very dull from this point, and spectators are few and far between at this point. People that made the effort were very supportive though.
A 79 pence medal was issued. I know they have to be careful with costs, but a bespoke medal would be one of the improvements I would make as it's not the cheapest half. It would be nice to incorporate a bit of town centre to the route and less harbour.
Organisation though is very good, race packs sent out early, good instructions, marshals etc, and availability of chocolate bars at the end made up for the medal a bit. Roads were reopened before end which was a bit of a shame for slower runners.
All in all, worth doing, and very well organised, but could be so much better with minor tweaks. Date of review: March 4, 2014
In short: Nice to have no traffic interfering. In full: A pleasant race despite the wind. The hill is tough enough, but it's out of the way early on. Instructions at the start were vague, and lack of signage for expected times caused some confusion. No water at 9 miles as promised, but overall a good mix of challenge and pleasure, with friendly marshalls. Date of review: March 4, 2014
