In short: Have fun getting a Personal Worst Time In full: Anyone looking for a Pancake Flat course will be happy with the last 10 meters. Outside of that is either up, down or intense concentration to check where you have to plant your feet.
The race itself is a 'must do' simply to experience the atmosphere and the toughness of the course. It is well marshalled with plenty of aid stations and a unique T shirt and medal for finishers. I liked the small touch of having all entrants names printed on the T shirt.
Thanks to Dr Rob for a unique and challenging event.
I do hope that the runners on the start line that had never run a Half Marathon before, managed to complete the course and are not put off for life! Date of review: June 15, 2015
In short: Simply the best run of the year. New start location which meant we had a little downhill before the first hill. Misty conditions and some welcome drizzle helped reduce the pain. Back again next year. Date of review: June 14, 2015
In short: My word that was quite hard. In full: Another great Trionium race - well done Dr Rob and the team. Bit of an early start, but the temperature was better than last year. The marshals were superb again. The enforced start from the Box Hill fort means it's difficult to get away quickly, but losing a few seconds doesn't cause a problem in this race. Perhaps using the track below the fort as the start would work better? I did miss that superb downhill finish :-(
In short: It was an insane 'why am I doing this' race but awesomely rewarding! In full: It is the most rewarding half marathon so far. It is a tough, insane, stupid, why people do this race race. The slopes are steep and many are too steep to run up. Going down steep hills are treacherous. However, if you finish this race, the sense of accomplishment is immense! Highly recommended but I am not doing this next year ;) Date of review: June 14, 2015
In short: Stunning, well-organised, but tough. In full: My first time doing this race, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt as though we covered every possible way of climbing Box Hill - some more than once. Thanks for the excellent organisation and cheerful marshalls. The other runners were very friendly (including the one who hauled me out of the dirt after I went full length over a tree root). Next time I am taking a rope for the Eiger Steps. In short: Boxing over Box Hill and the hill won In full: This year I had three goal, firstly instead of everyone overtaking me going down the Burfoot Slope I would overtake someone, I would elegantly trip over the stepping stone and not galumph across and finally beat my PB for the course. I failed on all three, oh heck that means I will have to try again next year. Fav quip of the day I heard. 'Mile for mile you get value for money on this course'! Thank you to Dr Rob and all his team and band of merry marshals for once again showing you set the standard for great races and organisation, and to all my fellow runners for your camaraderie on this great course.
