In short: Britians Hardest Half, never disappoints, amazing race! In full: I've run this three times now, every year I'm suprised again at just how hard it is, and every year I'm back for more. Organisation is spot on, post race goodies are great, runners and marshalls are friendly and supportive. Terrain is plenty hard, definitely not a PB race, but one you need to do all the same, if you like your runs hilly and challenging, this is the way to go. Date of review: June 24, 2014
In short: Challenging yet rewarding In full: The setting, the camaraderie and the run itself was a wonderful experience .Unlike a road race you are not continuously checking your pace,it's not that sort of event.
I will definitely be back again next year. Date of review: June 24, 2014
In short: If you like pain, you'll love this ! In full: This race claims to be the toughest half marathon in Britain, and I cannot argue. The hills are tough, but my god, those steps are a killer. Going down hundreds of uneven steps after 12 miles, knowing you'll be coming back up them in a few minutes is mind blowing, and thigh killing. The organisation and atmosphere were fantastic, and great goodies. Great medal, tee shirt and a pint glass, plus cakes at the finish. That said, anyone that finished thus race had earned them. If my legs ever recover, I will be back next year ! Date of review: June 24, 2014
In short: A very different kind of race and one to add to the calendar for future years In full: For hardcore nutters who tire of tarmac and concrete - this is a must do race - would have run the full 'Picnic Marathon' route had I known about it earlier (which is basically this race, twice) Date of review: June 24, 2014
In short: done it twice, will I be back? In full: I've done this twice now and it is strangely addictive...I clocked the race at 13.6 miles...just what you need an extra 1/2 mile of pain! Still a very nice jog for a saturday evening if it didn't include the steps or the hills. The 1/2 is a Brutal race, how anyone could do it twice as a marathon is insane. I'll still be back again next year. I hope. Date of review: June 24, 2014
In short: Great to watch and photograph In full: Well I didn't actually do the race, but then the RW form doesn't actually say you CAN'T rate the race as a mere spectator; and Dr Rob apparently needs a few more votes :-)
In short: As JFK (almost) said... it's the hard things that make us better... In full: "We choose to run the Midsummer Munro, not because it is easy, but because it is hard, because this serves to organise and measure the best of our energies and skills, because this challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win."
