In short: I've always enjoyed this race. If I had to be picky, there should be a finish banner although there was a sign to say 400m to go but that is the only thing I could think of. Very well organised, very pleasant course, would come back year after year In full: Have always loved Canterbury 10miles. Lovely course, nice people and very well organised. Great chip timing with half way splits, thank you, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Date of review: February 8, 2012
In short: Good scenic race but not value for money In full: The race itself is a good one. Fast course despite two main hills. Plenty of downhill stretches to make time up. We got there at least an hour before the start so parked in the school car park, got the number straight away and didn't queue for the toilets. Perhaps there's a lesson there for others. Saying all that though it isn't value for money and hard to figure out how they can justify the entry fee. Date of review: February 7, 2012
In short: good race, pity you couldn't see finish line In full: this is the third time i've done this race now in 3 years and my time has improved everytime, it has great scenery and a couple of hills, which makes the races worthwhile. i like this race, but again couldn't see the finish line, and the lack of anything at the end apart form a medal. will do it again if it is in my plans for marathon training Date of review: February 7, 2012
In short: Nice countryside route, little pricey though. In full: This is the third time I've done this race being a local and have enjoyed it each time! As others have said the school hall race HQ was very crowded, but again as others mentioned the cold undoubtedly added to the overcrowding. That said I got my timing chip pretty quickly and was able to use a portaloo with less than 10mins in a cue prior to the race which was fine.
Lovely scenery and a route that takes you away from major roads through villages and farmland malkes the run itself a pleasure.
Biggest gripe, given that when I first did the race a good few years back, there was several hundred less runners then too, there were reasonable goody bags on finishing, and yes one year a mug I was expecting a drink and perhaps energy bar of some sort. I agree with other comments that of course the reason for running is not to get these bags at the end. However with the race being nearly £20, and over 1000 taking part, I would have thought there was some scope in the budget for at least a drink that didn't involve me pouring water from a giant container for myself and others that couldn't lift it!
Still, will be back next year... Date of review: February 7, 2012
In short: A good race to assess your progress In full: A lot of moaning about the race, but it is what it is, a race - you challenge yourself against others. Push hard against the hills and catch up on the way down. Get there in good time and you either get a parking space or you park and walk. Simple. Make your own goodie bag up if you want a "well done" and smile - it helps! I had water, a medal, back slapping and a pb - I then drove 100 miles and went to work in the afternoon, and still felt happy. What does perspective mean? Date of review: February 4, 2012
In short: Great no-frills event - getting a tad pricey for what it offers In full: I like the challenging route offered. Wouldn't necessarily make the effort unless its a Grand prix event as it was this year. Took the train this year - no parking hassles! Hall was busy but it was freezing out, so what can you do. Medal was a bit rubbish - preferred the mug in 2011. Wouldnt say value for money. Date of review: February 2, 2012
In short: Nice course could be better organised In full: 2nd year I have run it, just as enjoyable as the 1st. Organisation in the hall not great but they did their best, which is all you can ask from volunteers. Probably not helped that it was so cold outside, so everyone waited inside. Parking not ideal but if you arrive 30 mins before the start, you are asking for trouble. Date of review: February 2, 2012
In short: Parking Parking Parking! but a nice enough run to get out those January cobwebs. In full: First time I've done this race - Luckily someone told me to go early because the parking was always a nightmare. They were not wrong. Think I got the last space and there were hundreds of cars behind! short queue for number and chip no probs, was crowded and not enough portaloos - but isn't the portaloo problem everywhere?
Nice route including a couple of nice but challenging hills to wake you up. Nice down hill sprint to the finish.
Have to say I agree with other runners I thought I'd finished and pulled up but there was still 50 yards to go! The finish wasnt obvious. I was relatively fast (PB :)) but I didnt see any water at the finish luckily I took my own.
Chip times when straight onto the website quickest results Ive seen!
Not the best but not bad. Date of review: January 31, 2012
In full: It would seem I am in the minority but I thought this was a fantastic race. We arrived early and had no problem parking or collecting our numbers (doing their bit for the environment by not posting out numbers). The course was interesting with a couple of small short hills to keep it interesting. The guy giving out prices was engaging, funny and obviously passionate about his sport. I would definitely do this race again. Date of review: January 31, 2012
