In full: Despite the weather a good turn out and all the marshalls were positive and upbeat. I didn't like the fact that some people finished at 10 miles and the 20 milers had to go off and do another lap - quite dishearteneing and the hill at 17 miles was hard! Overall a great race - my first 20 miler and would recommend it. Date of review: October 3, 2010

In short: Let's make it perfectly clear this was not a flat race! In full: I fancied running a nice flat 20 miles race as the organisers claimed it would be. My legs got a massive shock, the hills attacked my legs left, right and centre, and I really thought the hills were never going to stop.
What I liked about this race was that the race organisers waited for the RUNNERS queuing up for the loos at start of the race. I must admit there should have been more portaloos. Please note that I had a very small drink the day before the race). I liked the Top Gun oops I mean the Top Gear field; it was absolutely massive it reminded me of the days of the Annual Biggin Hill Air Show. There were plenty of water stations. The girls shouted and screamed to motive us RUNNERS, they were very good- you could hear them about 2 miles away. I love the medal it is massive and it’s a beauty. I don’t think my neck is strong enough to wear it!
I ran the race slowly to avoid any pain but my adductors still stiffened up during the race. I was not too happy with the hills; I found it a tough course. But in hindsight I am pleased I ran it. The more I think about Spitfire 20 the more it grows on me.
Well done Run to Live Ltd. Your race was a huge success. I see you will be organising another - Autumn Spitfire 20 miles (2 laps) and Tempest 10 miles (l lap) race on 3rd October, 2010. These are great races so put it in RUNNERS WORLD Training Journal or Diary.
Also well done to Sport System chip timing.
RUNNERS it is not how you start- its how you finish.

In short: Good training race for spring marathon In full: Mostly run on undulating/hilly country roads which were quite tough. About a quarter on the aerodrome runway which was different, though quite a strong wind on the day. Reasonable organistion for a first event and certainly pleased to have run it. Would certainly do it again if itfitted with my marathon schedule. Date of review: March 24, 2010

In short: Great pre-marathon training run in a race atmosphere In full: There were a few more hills than I expected, and it was two laps all on road, but overall I really enjoyed this race. I learned so much being in a race environment than I would've done running 20M on my own. And the medal was brilliant! Date of review: March 24, 2010

In short: Ideal pre-London long race In full: No issues with either the parking (plenty of it) or the facilities (lots of loos, indoor bag storage) - since I arrived in good time to make use of both (unlike a few!). Lovely Surrey scenery out on the country roads, with mostly respectful traffic tolerating the larger, closer group on lap 1. Regretfully no Clarkson, Hammond or May on hand to offer a lift on the couple of miles airfield at the end of laps 1 & 2 - could have done with speed boost, personally! Happy with the goody bag, too - give me a foil wrap, a Mars bar and one of the most substantial medals you'll see...will definitely be back! Date of review: March 24, 2010
