In short: Too many runners
In full: I did the Abbey Dash last year and thoroughly enjoyed it; however this year was ruined as there were far too many runners. The starting and finishing area was badly organised for the volume of people and I couldn’t get out once I had crossed the finish line, so I had to resort to jumping over the railings. Although I did get a personal best this year, I spent most of my time trying to get past lines of slower runners. I have done a 10 K in training on a more hilly terrain in sub 50 minutes, but due to the number of runners this year I was not able to complete the race in under 50 minutes. I will not be running this race again as it will only become more crowded and am disappointed that the organisers have sold out.

In short: PB smasher out and back race.
In full: New PB by four minutes was the reason I chose to do the race. Need to control start pens as too many people walking straight away which is a nightmare.

Nice T shirt at end but very busy.

In short: Too many runners this time!
In full: Although I managed a PB which I was chuffed with I felt there were just too many runners, a lot of the time I had to weave in and out of people, which got annoying, particularly towards the end of the course.

In short: This was my fourth Dash, I always enjoy this one
In full: My time has come down each year by around 2 minutes, I have no complaints at all it's well organised, a good atmosphere, obviously there is little to entertain you whilst running along a road out of town and back but if you want entertainment there are other races to look at.

In short: A decent no-fuss big city event.
In full: Not quite as pancake-flat as it purports to be, but certainly flat enough for a decent chance of a PB if the wind doesn't get up (same problem with all fairly exposed out-and-back courses). Not a great deal to look at, pricey for a 10k, and it's a big city mass-participation event so expect not-quite-enough-toilets and understaffed baggage areas. However, the atmosphere was genuinely pleasant, there were still people cheering at the finish line when the stragglers were coming in, the pre- and post-race organisation was acceptable (although we could have used a few start-line time-zone enforcers, perhaps with cattle-prods), but let's face it, a large number of runners in these races are first or only timers (bless 'em) and they can get a bit excitable. I wouldn't travel miles for it but I'm fairly local, had a pleasant morning, and would happily run it again.

In short: A PB course if ever there was one
In full: This course seems designed for PBs. The course is ever so slightly up-hill going out and down-hill coming back.

In short: Fairly flat fast course, although a fairly boring route
In full: The abbey dash is spot on for getting a PB (provided you save enough for the short but taxing hill in the last 1/4 mile) and is generally a very fast course out of Leeds to the Abbey and back. The route is mainly straight along one of the main routes into Leeds and as a result is pretty boring, even with the abbey at the halfway point, and the lack of terrain changes or hills can make it a bit monotonous. That said, I've done it 2 years in a row and will do it again next year, for pushing it hard I don't know of a better 10k.
