In short: Good fun event. Very different from your usual half In full: Fantastic day out. Even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits! Lots of fancy dress, wine, well stocked feed stations, friendly, nice downhill stint to the finish and hog roast (well I had the veggie version and it was nice to have a choice of food).
Only down side I can think of is that the t-shirt was done by men's sizes. For a size 8-10 woman a men's small is still far too big. Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: My favourite half marathon In full: First time that I have done this race and loved it. Great atmosphere, really well organised, loads of well stocked aid stations (including wine) and the very scenic course, including a fast downhill finish. Can't fault it. In short: Best race I've done in a long time In full: For the money you get, a medal, wine at every drink station, a good technical t-shirt, great pre-race organisation, a handshake from superman at the finish (Alan) a cup of tea, cake, fruit, wine, more wine en-route and gels and squash and water and fruit again and a pork roll (very nice veggie option too I am told). The course is beautiful, testing and not flat, some road, mainly on track so can be a bit slippy, but the times are not important here. Fancy dress well worth it, probably 70% of the field were in some form of fancy dress. Great organisation, lovely people, lovely race. Can't sell it enough - If you want a fun day out and a hilly half with a twist do it, you wont regret it! Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: Bacchus has excelled itself yet again. In full: I ran the marathon last year but because of injury I had to change to the half. I emailed the organisers 2 weeks before and had a reply saying change was done within 5 minutes. That just sums up everything about this ace as its one of the best organised I've ever came across. Add to the mix fancy dress, well stocked friendly drink & food stations, good route markings, friendly marshals, wine tasting and a brilliant hog roast to finish and you have as close as possible to race perfection. The organiser even shakes your hand as you finish. Thanks ETL & Bacchus staff for a brilliant fun filled day & race once again. Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: A friendly well organised event, one of the best in Surrey.. In full: What more could you ask for from an event. Very well organised, extremely friendly, a great challenging course with full course marking and plenty of very happy marshals cheering us on all the way. The water/aid stations are all very well stocked with everything you need gels, fruit, water and that little glass of wine for the pleasant Sunday afternoon feel. Great atmosphere coming into the finish with the race director greeting every finisher across the line with a well done and hand shake. A great quality medal and technical T shirt and plenty of drink, fruit and cake to great you a the finish. Massage and then on to the superb hog roast to finish the day. Thank you to all the organising team and you wonderful marshals. Will be back next year. Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: The most fun you can have whilst run/walking a half marathon In full: This was my third ever half marathon, and my sister's first. Yes, it's hilly, but it's still great fun, and worth it for the views. When we felt a bit challenged we were cheered up by a passing granny with a zimmerframe, and even more so when we overtook one of our five a day (fancy dress is encouraged, or maybe I was more tipsy than I thought). Everyone was really encouraging, and there was a real mix of running and walking. We didn't care about the time, and had already mentally signed up for next year before we'd even finished this one.
I didn't even notice the lack of goodie bag until I read the other reviews. But free wine, a fantastic medal, snazzy tee shirt, hog roast and six (or was it even seven?) rest/feed/wine/chocolate stops trumps the best goodie bag I have ever got by a long way. Date of review: September 9, 2013
