In short: Could have been great In full: OK, so it was the first time I'd run the Brighton half but fancied another coastal after Hastings in November.
Weather was great and contrary to what some have said, The start area was marked with expected finish times.
I did not use the baggage area as I parked in the Churchill NCP which was 10 minutes walk away so just changed there and walked down so I cannot comment on the organisation there.
Medal good, though I did ot see "goody bags" being distributed- didn't look as the race blurb had said not to expect one.
I ordered a t shirt when I entered and this was sent in the post prior to the event.
Loved the scenery, thought the crowds were encouraging and would like to thank the volunteers for their efforts on the day. Will be back next year, but only if they from isle to reduce the distance to 12.7 miles. Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: For £28, must do better... In full: Good that organisers have taken the flak for mis-measuring the course, but they could hardly do anything else when confronted with the evidence of a thousand Garmins. This isn't a Saturday morning club run, this is a big money-spinner and people ARE entitled to feel aggrieved if they feel they haven't got £28 worth of customer service. The insulting bags - let's not call them goody bags as there were nothing but flyers in them - and the under-staffed baggage areas (thank you to the volunteers) - all reeked of an organiser skimping on its overheads to maximise profits. Rightly or wrongly, that's my perception and with hotel rooms in Brighton not coming cheap, I think I'll look elsewhere for a race this time next year. Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: my first half marathon finished on a high In full: as a triathlete this was my first distance run.the course was brlliant hills at the beginning and mainly flat for the rest, was hoping for a sub 2.15 from RW plan and smashed 2hours dissapointed by extra milage but they held their hand up and corrected times accordingly.the medal was top notch and weighty.i pay £35 upwards for a tri race they are secure and you register i appreciate more people do these races but people did and could join in and finish and collect momento's whilst others paid £30 for good charities and priviledge to run.the biggest thing that peed me off was when you finished you were being pushed out of the way by supporters getting to friends and family instead of runners going to them they should close the finishing village off to the finishers.Brilliant weather virgin race over would do again thanks for the memories Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: Course was great despite it being longer than the stated 13.1 miles .Organisation was pretty poor - especially the distance from the baggage area to the start through the thronging masses of both runners and spectators alike. Goody bag contained zero Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: Loved it, despite the niggles In full: I live in Brighton and I love it. Yesterday was perfect weather and looking out over the sea/beach was lovely. It's a bit of a shame that the course was measured wrong...but on the bright side, I needed a slightly longer run to fit in with my marathon training AND I got a PB for 13.5 miles! Having sorted out the finish line (a problem in previous years), perhaps they'll measure it right next year! Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: Some good, some poor In full: The course measuring mistake was not acceptable for a race this expensive but at least they've held their hands up and apologised. Baggage area understaffed, totally pointless near empty goody bag but many plusses as well. Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: Could have been better In full: Not the best organisation at the start. Could have done with a bit more signposting. Course offered plenty of viewing / cheering spots for my family support. Lucozade and banana at the end might as well have been placed in the bag. I think that some people were so disheartened with the 'bag of two leaflets' that they didn't carry on to collect them. Distance mess-up was annoying but at least they've dealt with it.
In short: The good, the bad and the ridiculous In full: Should have been, could have been a great race. Ideal conditions, nice course, good support in places, expensive but happy to support the charity organising it. All turned a bit sour though with the extra 0.4 of a mile. Goody bag? what goody bag I didn't see one. 200 mile round trip to compete. Next year? Hmmm dont think so
In short: Really enjoyable race, and dealt with mistakes very well In full: I did this race for the 2nd time this year, and it really does have a lot going for it.
I found the organisation very good, the start was a little bit crowded due to where one of the many banks of portaloos were placed, but is was a very minor niggle for me. Once we had started, the course is fabulous, the crowd support and volunteer support is outstanding, and apart from the error with the distance this year, I personally think it would be hard to fault.
I will definitely plan to be back next year, and I think the organisers deserve a lot of credit and kudos for how they have dealt with the mistake made on the cone placement.... Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: Fun run In full: Great weather, great volunteer supporters, good course. I was really confused whilst running that my gps tracked me as having run further than the markers which was off-putting on the run. What a shame that the distance was mis- calculated. I'm sure my pricey race fee paid for the basics to be correct. The lack of t shirt at the end was poor. Bottlenecks twice in the race need to be looked at - in the 2 hr group I was in we were politely trying to find space without tripping anyone over. I can see why some reviews are so negative. I really enjoyed the run but the farce of the distance was really annoying as I put so much effort into breaking my 2h target - my timing was 2.00.37 ...they think...as a guess...maybe! I think I'll look at an alternative for next year. Date of review: February 20, 2012
