In short: A hard slog on the hottest day of the year In full: I have run this race since 1988 and with one exception (when it poured with rain)it has always been far too hot. Every year runners complain of the heat and ridiculous start time,to no avail. I think the falling numbers speak for themselves. A few years back, the race was fully booked well before the closing date (1000 max.)wheras last year there were only 707 finishers. I don't know this years figures as results are not yet on line. I am afraid that if the Month or start time are not changed, the race will not survive. Apart from these gripes, it is a well organised race and well marshalled. Not a race for beginners or those seeking a PB. Date of review: July 11, 2005
In short: Great course let down by ridiculous start time In full: I don't understand why they can't start the 10 mile run earlier in the day and have the shorter fun runs a bit later. 1245 start in the middle of July is ridiculous. OK, I haven't been particularly well for the past few weeks but I must have ended up walking at least 2.5 miles and I consider myself to be a fairly solid if not spectacular runner (I finished in 1.26).
The course is beautiful, the marshalls fantastic and the organisation as a whole is spot on but, unless they change the start time, I for one will not be doing this again next year. Date of review: July 11, 2005
In short: Mad dogs and Englishmen go out for a midday run! In full: Great course, excellent marshals, but too b***dy hot by far! If the start is 9 am or sooner next year, I'll do it again; otherwise, no way. With the sun directly overhead, even the trees didn't provide much shade in some parts. The number of walkers (including me) says something about the conditions, as did the ambulance rushing along the course at one point... A well-organised event, so I'd like to do it again if the conditions are right. Just off to move my treadmill into a sauna! Date of review: July 11, 2005
In short: Nice course, but the heat made it tough! In full: Well organised (Mike O'Reilly - British 10K - take note this is how it is done). Excellent marshalling (thanks to all the numerous marshalls spread out along the course). Could do with some bottled water though! Date of review: July 11, 2005
In short: the heat made it very hard today In full: well organised as usual, they need a deal with a water company though, strange tasting stuff being dished out at the finish! Date of review: July 10, 2005
In short: It felt more 'undulating' than 'flat' on the day but it was very well marshalled, very well organinzed and excellent for the non-runners in the family. Other race organizers could learn a lot from these guys! Date of review: July 10, 2005
