In short: intimate introduction to the bike paths of a northern suburb In full: A bit too up-and-down it felt like there was never a flat step to be had on this course ... not steep undulations but just annoying enough to make the calves ache from about mile 8 onward. In short: Great organisation and marshalling. Not a very picturesue run though! In full: Managed to do a PB so generally very happy. Course wasn't the most scenic and the weather was dreary, but the organisation and the marshals were fantastic. Not an easy one to get to if you are using public transport though. The start was a good 3 mile walk from the train station so walking back in the rain after running 13.1 miles wasn't much fun. Date of review: November 8, 2004
In short: Good race. All on road with no nice scenery to distract you but there loads of marshals and all were friendly despite the weather. Slight delay to the start but no major problems. Date of review: November 7, 2004
In short: No scenery. Cycle track - continually undulating - annoying. Nevertheless enjoyed. Marshals excellent. In full: My first 1/2 marathon. Start seemed well organised - in terms of baggage and somewhere warm to wait (there was a 15 minute delay). Start itself was a bit chaotic but maybe that's normal! Fair to say that scenery was non existent - what you can expect when running through a large town I suppose. Running surface was cycle track the whole way. Trouble was that it this continually undulated (so cyclists can get through underpasses). Found this quite irritating as difficult to get a rhythm going. Nevertheless really enjoyed the experience. The marshalls were excellent - kept the cars away, easy to get hold of water, seemed to be loads of them and very encouraging. Will do it again next year I suspect. Good for beginners? Probably. I managed an average time of 8.28mpm which compares to 8.48mph in training - so must have been dragged by those better than myself.
