In short: Well organised race, friendly and helpful staff. In full: This was my second marathon after the London and although it was tougher it was better as the roads were wide enough to allow me to run at my own pace. The whole course is undulating with a few steep hills. The scenery was supurb and the other runners were very friendly. Drinks stations were regular and alternated with lucozade sports drinks staations; energy bars were also available. My only complaint of the organisation was that the Monster BBQ did not offer a vegetarian option. Date of review: January 7, 2006

In short: My first marathon which was enjoyable as it could be! In full: I foolishly thought running along a Loch would be flat, this course wasn't! Very good run with a welcome massage at the end Date of review: December 14, 2005

In short: Whew! The reason I signed up to do the Loch Ness Marathon this year is beacuse my pal from work said it was easier than the Edinburgh Marathon. He is no longer a pal...... In full: I didn't really know what to expect in my first Marathon, I had a fair idea it involved a lot of running but never knew how much! Before the race, I had only managed to run 10 miles so it was a really big ask for me to complete it. As well as that, I had only done 3 weeks training and was just recovering from a bad cold. Yes - I'm an idiot, I should never have ran the race but I'm sure glad I did! I got plenty advice before I headed up to the highlands - bought some good gear and plenty of carb gel. If it's wasnt for the gel I reckon I'd still be runnning now. Anyway, the race itself was going far too easy - I managed to get to half way in 1 hour 58 mins and thought there was a chance I could break the 4 hour barrier...... That was, until about 17/18 miles when you suddenly have a 3 mile uphill stretch that takes you to hell and back. All the way in from there my legs were tightening up and I was counting down the miles to Inverness and the finish at Queens Park Stadium. When I got there, the crowds were starting to disappear but that didn't matter to me, I had just completed the toughest challenge of my life in 4 hours 13 minutes and it has made me want lots more! In short: Excellent race and the course was faster than expected. The two big hills near the end are not that bad and there seems an awful lot of downhill sections. Date of review: October 6, 2005

In short: Beautiful scenery, great atmosphere. The T-shirt is now one of my most prized posessions! In full: The massage afterwards looked great, although we weren't told you had to book, so we missed out. Very disappointing. Apart from that, a fantastic first marathon.
