In short: Some surprising hills but the skylarks were singing! In full: Good views(though in blustery weather it could feel very exposed in places)and the second half contained some annoying hills - Bennetts Hill at the 12 mile mark was aptly named the sting in the tail! In short: A really great race, perfectly organised In full: Thanks to everyone for a great race. Really well organised, great value for money, very picturesque and Sunshine was on order. You should feel very proud for organising such a great half marathon. Looking forward to next year Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: My perfect half In full: I'd repeat all the comments made by other reviewers about the achievement of the organisers in making this such a special race at the first time of asking. Whoever thought of using the route for a race also deserves credit - I loved it.
In terms of the difficulty, I think it's one of those courses where, if you're feeling strong and running well, you might not see it as tough at all. But if you're not feeling so good and have under-trained (as I was), there seem to be far more ups than downs. I'm not sure a pb is out of the question. Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: Great race, well organised and with terrific scenery and a good atmosphere In full: Small friendly race, lots of local support. Perhaps could have done with one extra water station half way as it was a hot day. Thanks for a great race, I managed a pb despite the hills! Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: Pleasant rural run, with some undulations In full: A very well organised first time event. The parking areas were quite varied, but not too far to the School facilities (HQ), and then to the race start. Route was pleasant along quiet country roads, with some good local support. It was a nice change to have the option of cups of water, bottled water, and even gels at each of the 3 drinks stations, so thanks for that. Incredibly fast full results available also. All in all, a very good Half, and deserves to be bigger in future, given how well it was organised. Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: Like clockwork In full: That this is the first race is truly amazing. Very well run event, with everything that one could possibly need (including the weather!!) It was very nice to get some support around the course (albeit sporadic but that is what you get with a rural setting). However, things sure livened up at the finish with a nice cheering crowd and an excellent PA trying to make us give that little bit more effort. In terms of the course, it was not as flat as expected and the hill at 11.5 miles was unkind (but then again the Scorpion run does give it away slightly).
Overall I would certainly recommend this to anyone, the only problems being that if entry is again limited next year to 300 you will have to be very quick to get in.
In short: Good new half marathon In full: I enjoyed this race - it fitted in perfectly with the Runner's World marathon training schedules.
I arrived fairly early and so parked in the car park furthest away - about 1/2 mile from the start/finish. Not a problem - just used it as a warm up. Water available at the start would have been nice. That said, the organisers were more than happy to help me grab a drink when I went to the finish line (before the race) to grab a drink. Thank you.
Very well marshalled - nice to be applauded the whole way around! Scenic. Definitely undulating, and there was some fairly tought wind to deal with.
Known as the 'Scorpion' - the race billed the last hill as a sting in the tail. I conquered this fairly easily. And then realised I hadn't. It was still to come! Fast finish followed this.
Good finish zone and great goody bag. A fun day out and a massive PB for me by 5.5 minutes! Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: Slicker than slick In full: Well done to all involved this race was brilliant. the start on time, the marshals so helpful, the cadets at the water station were fabulous and i easily got a bottle and a gel everytime. I smashed my PB, the hills were cheeky but with that there were some lovely flat and down hill stretches.Generous goody bags Awesome weather too. Cant ask for more. Date of review: March 12, 2012
In full: Very good inaugural event. Good parking/organisation/bag drop. Friendly people all round. Only 300 runners because roads are rural but not closed off. It got a bit lonely as we were stretched out and support was limited. Very undulating with a couple of tough hills in warm weather. Very good first effort indeed. Well done.
