In short: Like clockwork In full: That this is the first race is truly amazing. Very well run event, with everything that one could possibly need (including the weather!!) It was very nice to get some support around the course (albeit sporadic but that is what you get with a rural setting). However, things sure livened up at the finish with a nice cheering crowd and an excellent PA trying to make us give that little bit more effort. In terms of the course, it was not as flat as expected and the hill at 11.5 miles was unkind (but then again the Scorpion run does give it away slightly).
Overall I would certainly recommend this to anyone, the only problems being that if entry is again limited next year to 300 you will have to be very quick to get in.
In short: Good new half marathon In full: I enjoyed this race - it fitted in perfectly with the Runner's World marathon training schedules.
I arrived fairly early and so parked in the car park furthest away - about 1/2 mile from the start/finish. Not a problem - just used it as a warm up. Water available at the start would have been nice. That said, the organisers were more than happy to help me grab a drink when I went to the finish line (before the race) to grab a drink. Thank you.
Very well marshalled - nice to be applauded the whole way around! Scenic. Definitely undulating, and there was some fairly tought wind to deal with.
Known as the 'Scorpion' - the race billed the last hill as a sting in the tail. I conquered this fairly easily. And then realised I hadn't. It was still to come! Fast finish followed this.
Good finish zone and great goody bag. A fun day out and a massive PB for me by 5.5 minutes! Date of review: March 12, 2012
In short: Slicker than slick In full: Well done to all involved this race was brilliant. the start on time, the marshals so helpful, the cadets at the water station were fabulous and i easily got a bottle and a gel everytime. I smashed my PB, the hills were cheeky but with that there were some lovely flat and down hill stretches.Generous goody bags Awesome weather too. Cant ask for more. Date of review: March 12, 2012
In full: Very good inaugural event. Good parking/organisation/bag drop. Friendly people all round. Only 300 runners because roads are rural but not closed off. It got a bit lonely as we were stretched out and support was limited. Very undulating with a couple of tough hills in warm weather. Very good first effort indeed. Well done. In short: Would not of guessed it was a first time race In full: Easy to find, no issues parking, staggered start so quickes not held up in the pack. Well marshalled excellent water stations with energy gels ( banana!!!) not as flat as I had expected, undulating mostly, flat sections seemed to be met with head wind. Weather was very warm. Scorpions tail at mile 12 was harsh took away any chance I had of a PBS. Finish line area very lively with plenty to do for family / friends or non runners. Goody bag was excellent and time displayed at finish along with speedy results link to website. Would defo recommend to anyone. Only 248 finishers from a sold out field of 300 doubt that many failed to turn up so maybe a few drop outs on a warm day and slightly challenging course. Date of review: March 11, 2012
In short: Really well organised race. In full: Really enjoyed this race. Several small hills, a couple of steeper ones(the one on 12 miles was a little cruel!)Good marshalling, perfectly positioned water stations, nice scenery, and whoever orgainsed the weather deserves a pint from us all. Sunny but not too hot. Perfect. I've done several races which have been going for years that are lagging far behind this inaugural race. Great job and thankyou for a great morning Date of review: March 11, 2012
In short: A superb first time race In full: What a fab day! The organisers have done a super job of putting on a great race. The course was undulating and the scopions tail was a stinger but that all added to the fun of the day. Fab goodie bag, great support from the locals and a lively finishing area. BRILLIANT! :-) Date of review: March 11, 2012
