In short: great support. superbly marshaled In full: This should become one of the UKs major marathons. Well organised and traffic free, the support was great. The hills in the last few miles were tough but the stadium finish magnificent. It still has a local run feel especially at the start where pens and improved sound will soon be needed. Get booked in for next year! Date of review: May 7, 2014
In short: Fast course; well organised; one of the better marathons In full: I'm a veteran marathon runner and thought this was a great race.
Yes, so the course is a bit boring, but it's fast but I wasn't running to view the scenery. I was chasinga fast time. The first half is pretty flat and the second half has a few bumps in it, but what goes up must come down, so you to tend to find yourself going up at a steady pace and then bombing down well ahead of schedule.
The t-shirt was great (it was clear that you could pay for one in advance of the event) and the marshalls were great. Local support wasn't bad either.
The stadium finish is one of the best finishes I've experienced. It felt like the Olympics as we approached from afar.
If you want a PB and can handle some very friendly undulations, then this is a good course. I ran my quickest time for 21 years thanks to those "hills". If you want a professionally organised event, this is for you.
In full: a well organised event, marshals and local support fantastic, the course was a good mix of city and country running, finish in the stadium was special and medal was worth the pain, banana at finish and not having to wait for bag good
now for the moaning, having the half marathon runners mixed with the full was off putting, but some banter was had. course described as undulating was an understatement esp the last 6 miles, goody bag that was all it was a bag with a few items in it Date of review: May 7, 2014
In short: Great stadium finish, good support on course & PB potential for the toughminded In full: One of my favorite races. It combines MK city centre and many miles of leafy surrounding suburbs, lake & canal side redways. Support in the town is fantastic & plenty of little groups out on the more rural sections as well.
This course deffo has PB potential, but you have to work hard to earn it, no free rides. Plenty of water, gels & iso-drink on the course and pacers from 3h->5h finish which is a great touch.
Stadium finish is great, you real feel like a hero covering the last mile as you head in towards the finish line, cracking medal as well.
Will be back next year. Date of review: May 7, 2014
In short: Hot and Hilly In full: Somehow managed to knock a few minutes off my PB on what was a very hot day, and a tough course. Not as flat as advertised, the undulations throughout were extremely draining, and the ones in the last 6 miles pretty much destroyed me. Stadium finish was a nice touch, and marshals and support along the way were great. Disappointed with lack of t-shirt. Date of review: May 6, 2014
In short: I just wanted to say a big thanks!!! In full: I ran the marathon on Monday and I just wanted to let you know what a great experience it was. It was my third marathon and I got a PB ensuring I qualify for London.
The marathon was well organised, and the support was amazing! I was on my own on the day and having your name printed under your number increased the support. I have done a lot of races, and never felt as supported as I did on Monday.
It was an amazing experience, generated by volunteers and supporters... I was very impressed, and glad to be part of a great day.
In short: Clockwork In full: This was my first marathon. I have run 6 halfs and I'm used to big races. I thought organisation brilliant with the football stadium ideal as its obviously designed for a large number of people so not too crowded. Volunteers, water stops and crowd were excellent. I was over 5 hours and there were still plenty of enthusiastic people to cheer me round. Quality medal, goody bag had everything you need after a race - drink, banana, crisps, chocolate etc - designed by a runner I think. No T-shirt but I guess they spent the money on the medal and food which is probably better to be honest. Signage could be better - eg signs to alternative toilets. Finish in the stadium was fantastic. People have said it was a tough course - I did find it difficult but this was my first marathon so hard for me to compare - plus I'm local so used to the redways and underpasses. Wonderful (ok I'm biased) people of MK giving out jelly babies and even plastic cups of water on several parts of the course. Plus 2 guys with hosepipes to water you down if you wanted it - similar to GNR for me in terms of a happy helpful crowd. Date of review: May 6, 2014
In short: Wow ... still buzzing from yesterday In full: I wanted to thank and congratulate everyone who was involved in putting on the MK marathon yesterday.
Every aspect of the day was superb. The Pre race arrangements, the start, marshalling, support and drinks on the route, finish, meeting area and car parking were all first class. This was the best running event I have ever taken part in, and really importantly the best my family have ever spectated at.
They loved taking part in the superhero fun run when I was out on the course.
You've done MK proud.
I'll be back next year. Date of review: May 6, 2014
In short: undulating course and a challenge but pbs are possible. In full: this is the 3rd time ive ran milton keynes and i enjoy the run. its certainly not a flat course especially the 2nd half but having ran it twice before id learned abit about the route and knew what to expect. all the underpasses and hills really make the 2nd half a challenge especially mile 24. the sub 3 hour pace guy was brilliant. he was talking and giving info on how the pace was going and was a great help. massive thumbs up to him. mile markers 25 and 26 either werent there or couldnt be seen. the stadium finish i love. there is a good feeling entering a big arena to cross the line. i had no issues with water/gatorade stations. plenty of them to keep fluid intake up and bottles were easy to reach. i do agree its not flat and shouldnt be advertised as flat but there is pb potential for those that maybe no what to expect. and this year there was nowhere to change except in the loos as signed. 2013 there was an area in the big baggage hall blocked off for changing behind and was disappointed that wasnt available. its a vast area so i think there is room for this. and the start is a little hectic like most races. starting zones are good but also runners need to take responsibility and place themselves sensibly. if you like a challenging course with a good atmosphere then its ideal but if your after a pb id wouldnt say its ideal but not impossible. on the whole tho i enjoy this event and ill be back next year.
