In short: Very well organised and supported, but who chose that t-shirt? In full: Excellently organised race, with impressive support given the icy winds from hell that were blowing on the day. Nice goody bag, although I too could have done with the silver blanket being opened for me - after a couple of attempts with frozen fingers I gave up! Mind you, last year ice lollies would have been nearer the mark, so that probably won't be an issue again! Altogether an excellent and enjoyable event. But salmon-pink for the t-shirt? Might I suggest a cheerful bright red or blue for next year, because I'll be back...? Date of review: March 27, 2013
In short: Will be back next year In full: I don't know why I've never done this race before. Excellent race, will hopefully become a annual race for me. Best organisation I've witnessed.
Everyone was extremely friendly and made for a brill atmosphere. Even made some new friends on my way round!Marshals did a great job. And thought that having names printed on number was a nice touch.
Very fast course. Despite making a massive effort not to go off too quick, I ended up going off too quick. It's very easy to do even if you're trying not to, so be careful with that.
I personally thought the conditions were perfect for me, as I get very hot running. But this is a personal preference.
Minor criticisms. Didn't enjoy the walk back to HQ at the end. Bit baffled by those runners who decided to wear ipods despite the pre-race info clearly specifying that they were not allowed. It's a bit selfish. Maybe the mile markers could have been made more noticeable. I missed the first one as I was looking out for yellow signs not white!
Loved the t-shirt, loved the medal, loved the mars bar! See you next year Wilmslow. Date of review: March 25, 2013
In short: A cold race with a warm atmosphere In full: Another great race organised by Wilmslow RC. Tough, cold, windy conditions but a good atmosphere amongst the runners and terrific marshals. While some may complain about the price, given the closed roads, the excellent organisation and nice if unusual shirt, it is far better value than anything put on by BUPA. Enjoyable route and look forward to doing it again when I am fully fit. Date of review: March 25, 2013
In short: Really well organised event regardless of the inclement weather and problems that could have brought In full: Good course, very well marshalled and supported. Parking well organised at rugby club and on surrounding streets. Not sure about the small pink shirts handed out in the reward pack at the end though! Date of review: March 25, 2013
In short: Lovely stuff In full: Random observations: Great organisation, including updates on conditions in the days before the race; marshalls and spectators excellent in freezing conditions; don't know about that tshirt; don't know how I got a PB; amusing that the first person I saw wearing an ipod was from Wilmslow RC, who organise the race and include the rule to not wear an ipod. In short: Good organisation and support despite freezing conditions In full: A good race although a little undulating. Marshals were more vocal than last year and the support seemed better. Very cold conditions but felt better than the heat of 2012. could of done with all items in the goody bag instead of having to search for foil blankets etc. Price a bit steep would prefer energy drinks on the course. Overall a well organised and supported race. Well done Date of review: March 25, 2013
In short: Wilmslow does it again but oh that bitter wind! In full: Love this race & this was my 3rd go. Fantastic organisation, lovely course, strong local support, balloons on lampposts. Only negative the odd salmon pink t shirt but overall a fantastic experience. Definitely recommend it. Date of review: March 25, 2013
In short: Good organisation and a nice race despite the freezing wind! In full: Agree with pretty much everything in other reviews, although my friends and I did get mars bars in our goody bags, which perhaps made the walk back to the car easier - I think Nia was just unlucky. :)
I was also a late transfer, and was v. impressed that this was allowed - nice to have my real name on the results list, thank you Malcolm. All the organisation seemed spot-on. Clear closed roads. Loads of marshals despite very chilly conditions, which is always reassuring. Plus the support in general was great considering the cold; high-fiving smiling kids always makes for a bit of a distraction.
Nice medal, and I quite like the "red sock left in the wash" pink technical t-shirt. I know these bump the cost up, but personally I'd rather pay a little more and have the momentos.
The clear views across the fields and farm buildings meant you could appreciate the rural setting (although there was often little shelter from the wind). I think it's fair to describe the course as undulating. Not steep, but I've run flatter ones. Much of the course seemed to be a (slight) gradient one way or the other. The steep down-then-up at 12.5 miles was particularly unwelcome, especially with the headwind, but it was soon over! Date of review: March 25, 2013
In short: Well organised scenic race In full: Have done this race several times...and this was definitely the coldest! That wind in the last few miles was most unwelcome, please try avoid that for next year organisers. This is a well managed event, there are loads of marshalls on the route...they must have been freezing out there! I expect will be back again next year, weather permitting.
