In short: pants organisation for front runners In full: the marshals were either non existant or didn't know what they were doing, i was leading by 400m plus at the turn for the greenway but the marshal forgot to tell me to turn left so i ran right past him it was the driver of the lead car who couldn't drive down the greenway who told me i was off course 100m up the road, then at the end of the greenway at 12.5 miles still with a 300m lead there was a left turn with NO marshal at all!!! so i ran right passed it this ment i ended up on the wrong side of the river and also lost my lead, so yes it is expencive and i don't agree it was well organised for the front runners (at least 6 other runners i spoke to did the same as me!!) In short: Great marshalling, but laps of town unnecessary and tedious and too many stretches on busy roads. In full: Very friendly and well organised and supported, although parking prices steep, especially for a Sunday. Entry charge toppy, but as long as Rotary get most of it, fine. After 25 years of trying really think they could have got us off busy roads rather better. Otherwise scenery worth the trip. Date of review: May 9, 2006
In short: Greenway never gets any easier In full: Second time at this marathon and enjoyed every minute of it - even the final slog down the greenway. Great medal this time. Support was fantastic especially at Luddington - the man with the stereo is an angel! Will stick to the half next year though. Date of review: May 9, 2006
In short: Overall, very well organised. Scenic. Good marshalling In full: Very expensive. Crowded start does not make for pb's. Open roads a concern over some sections & fumes from traffic not desirable. Baggage storage & retrieval excellent. Despite these niggles a friendly & enjoyable event. Date of review: May 9, 2006
In short: Good Race but no goody bag In full: This was my first full marathon and I would recommend it to anyone. It was nice running with the half marathoners but you really do notice the smaller field on the second lap.
Things that could be improved:
Chip Timming would be good.
Some energy drinks on the second lap
Running on the main road needs to be safer. More so on the second lap. Alot of cars and lorries did not slow down and could not be seen until on top of you as you were running in the same direction. A conned off running lane would improve this.
A goody bag or a free T shirt would be nice as £20 is a bit expensive for just a medal.
Overall a really good race and day. Would do it again. Oh the hills are very mild and you hardly notice them. Good crowd support even on lap two. Date of review: May 9, 2006
In short: Favourite 1/2 marathon ever In full: THis was a great race. The course was beautiful, the marshalling was awesome. Support along the course was some of the best I've seen before - it's nice when people cheer for strangers! Even the runners were friendly - checking if people around them needed a water bottle before throwing it away. A couple of hills were a nice challenge - but it is a nice course to run if not the best runner. Overall I would recommend this to anyone. Wonderful race - thanks to the organisers.
