In short: Really top event In full: Unbelievable bad luck on the day with strong wind against for fist few miles. Must say, I don't do many runs but this one gives me something to aim for after Christmas. Well done Adrian Shandley, Wendy and the team. Date of review: February 11, 2014
In short: Pawsome! Woofed it! :-) In full: This was my first Mad Dog and I have to say I absolutely loved it. I contemplated giving up when I couldn't even get the car door open in the Park & Ride due to the gale force winds, but I'm so glad I did it. The organisation was faultless, parking, buses, baggage drop, changing facilities, etc were extremely well organised and everything ran like clockwork. Lots of freebies were handed out before the start of the race and I really enjoyed my free calf massage, as well.
The first half of the race was hard, due to the relentless head wind, but the organisers can't be held responsible for the weather...I suppose Southport in February is going to be hit and miss. There were bands on the course to provide entertainment and keep us distracted from battling the wind, and the marshalls were great and really encouraging.
I also liked the fact that bottles instead of cups were given out at the halfway point, because I like to hang on to my drink and keep sipping as I go along.
As for the goody bag, it's probably the best I've had, the medal is great and I love the t-shirt (and it actually seems very good quality). The medal and T-shirt alone would have been worth the entry fee and considering everything else on offer, the race is definitely value for money, even if it is a bit more expensive than some events (it's still a lot cheaper than a lot of others).
The organisers were incredibly helpful and fast with answering queries, both pre- and post event and overall, the atmosphere on race day was fantastic, despite the weather.
Definitely one of the best races I have done, and I would love to come back for Mad Dog 5 next year! Date of review: February 11, 2014
In short: Best race iv ever taken part in In full: This was my 3rd 10k and despite the terrible weather it was my best 10k. Very good planning was carried out, everything was perfect! Thanks alot! Date of review: February 10, 2014
In short: Best run I've taken part in so far In full: Organised well with plenty of entertainment along the way. The best goody bag yet and brilliant t shirt you can tell a lot of thought and effort went into this event, the atmosphere was great and it kept me going despite the tough weather. Looking forward to next year! Date of review: February 10, 2014
In short: Much better than any previous 10K I have completed In full: Did my first 10k in Manchester in May 2013, then Salford 10k in September 2013. I am a local Southport resident so may seem biased but really am not. The race starts outside my house. Despite the horrendous weather overnight (wind & rain) was not sure whether the race was going to be on. Website was up to date and marshalls were out early setting up. Well organised from start, absolutely fantastic route alongside Southport Beach from Marshside to Pleasureland, then back down the Promenade. Water was easily accessable and noticed sighns for toilets if needed. (No eyesores, beautiful route) Upon completion a fantastic goody bag full of great treats and the best medal ever was dished out with bananas and apples. Best 10k ever, only 51 weeks to the next.
