In short: My first proper 10k - enjoyed it, will do it again.
In full: Did my first 10k in May this year, for Race For Life, so a non-competitive run. I wasn't sure if I wanted to enter this one, but my partner was doing it, so I thought I might try. I read the reviews from this forum, particularly from those who did this race as their first 10k, found the reviews very helpful. We did a recce of the route a few days before (someone has kindly posted a route map on this forum)and I finally decided to enter on the day. I enjoyed the route, found it relatively easy to run.....surprised myself by being able to run for 50 mins before I stopped for a short walk (previously the most I'd run before stopping was about 32 mins), and the only reason I stopped was because they'd put a 2nd water station around the 8k-ish mark and I was looking for a reason to stop! There have been various comments on the 'hills' in this race - I had no problem with them, and they are inclines rather than hills, taking about 30 seconds max to run up. The first is a slightly steep but short incline up to the bridge on the return route, the other incline was a bit longer but not as steep. My finishing time was 72 mins....okay, not a super fast time, but I did it, and I'd recommend it as a good general 10k race suitable for all levels.

In short: The course was a little grim!!
In full: I found the course a little bit grim- it felt like a good training run but not a race route. It seemed we were running at night during some parts of the heavily tree lined course;the overcast weather must have contributed to this. The organisation was fine and there were certainly plenty of marshals along the course, I must admit I had been feeling under the weather for a couple of days before the race so this might have prejudiced my view of the day. Thanks for a well organised day. As a footnote my wife found the course more difficult than she thought it was going to be.

In short: A good beginner-friendly race, but definately not a flat course as advertised.
In full: This was my second time doing this race and overall I think it's a good introduction into racing for beginners as well as definatelly offering a challenge for the seasoned runners. However, I was slightly dissapointed this year due to a discrepency in the timing - there was a whopping 21 second difference between the official time and my stopwatch! Now, It could be my watch that's at fault but it would be interesting to see whether anybody else experienced this. The other issue I have with this race is the fact that its advertised as a flat course...it isn't (okay, its predominantly flat, but there's definately a hill in there so don't be expecting a pb)!!! However that's not to detract from what is overall a good and enjoyable race.

In short: Replete with distance markers
In full: Like one of the previous reviewers, I'd have preferred the distance markers to be in kilometres rather than miles, but unlike him I did manage to spot six of them! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the race and thought is was well organised and represented excellent value for money.

In short: A distinct lack of distance markers
In full: It was disappointing there were only 2 distance markers which were for 4 miles and 6 miles. With the race being in kilometres I didn't find these terribly helpful.
