In short: 2007 Much better 2nd time around.
In full: Did this last year (2006)(the 1/2)) nearly put my light out! This year (2007) I've discovered fell running & what a difference.
Cruised the first big hill at Chapel Style, eased the down hill part, dug in for the ups & walked the big hill at the end, fast walking is as quick as running & keeps the energy up for the tricky bit at the top & the long, long finish straight. Smashed last years time & also an early season flat 1/2. Nearly got my 1/2 PB. Amazing.
If you are going to do this I would strongly reccommend hill running but a fell run once a week is great for the spirit & the time.

In short: You're either hooked or you'll hate it !
In full: 2007(Half Marathon). Must be one of, if not,THE best halves in the country. Rocket Rod does a great job of organising this, plus a few other cheeky little runs. The camaraderie is spot on, the hills take no prisoners and the scenery is out of this world. If you don't like hills, train and do it. If you do like hills then just Do It !

In short: Magnificent scenary. I chose it for my 50th marathon, as I've loved the Langdale area for 40 years or so. It took me 4:30, and I've never before been over 4 hrs on the road.
In full: I drove around the day before, and expecting about 3 big rises per lap (having browsed the 1:50000 O.S. map), was somewhat in a state of shock to count 26 ups, 4 of them really serious at around 25%....and that was on just one lap.

In short: I only ran it because Brighton were playing at Carlisle on the Saturday!
In full: My schedule for Dublin said 'half marathon' for this weekend, As I was going up to Carlisle to watch the Mighty(ahem!) Stripes, I thought I'd do a search for a local half.

Came up with this one, did a bit of research on here and still entered!

Great Race, first 3 miles flat(ish), and then we went up the side of a mountain!!!!

Well, it was all up & down from then!!!

Enjoyed having a good run for the last mile, but enjoyed the previous 12 even more.

In short: Best race of the year
In full: This is a brilliant race. The atmosphere, organisation, not to mention the jaw-dropping scenery are all brilliant. Forget your watch. The hills are tough but do not let this put you off. This has been my most enjoyable race of the year by a mile.
