In short: Hot, sweaty, fun In full: What a great race; a beautiful course through the New Forest, mostly on gravelled tracks with some tarmacked sections, plenty of parking, loos, and water, squash and a hosing down at the end. Not much chance of a PB due to the blistering heat, but a nice flat course otherwise.
Thank you to all the organisers for a great event, top marks go to the chap at the 5 mile point with a hose. Date of review: July 15, 2013
In short: Beautiful Course In full: First time doing this race and I now see what the hype was all about. The most gorgeous route of any run I have ever done - sections through the woodland with New Forest ponies sheltering under the trees, followed by tracks across the open heathland. As others have posted, it was stupidly hot - over 30 degrees and large sections of the route had zero shade. That said, it put all thoughts of a PB out of my head and I just focused on getting through it without fainting (!) and enjoying the scenery. Earlier start time of 9am would be a good move due to the heat of a July race - definitely be back though.
And to the man at 5 miles who had his garden hosepipe out spraying everyone - I owe you a kiss! You saved my life! Date of review: July 15, 2013
In short: Late start for the time of year but a nice race In full: A really good race, lots of car parking, a great atmosphere and friendly marshalls. I would have liked to see the event start earlier, 11.15 was too late for such hot weather especially if this happens every year. I wasn't happy with the race but I am blaming an injury so will be back next year to sort it out! Date of review: July 15, 2013
In short: A great 10 miler with a great unique horse brass medal In full: A really hot day but it all went swimmingly well great marshalls lots of support the hose pipe man i bow down to!! Id definately do it again next year it was a beautiful run hardly any hills and well organised . The only thing that annoyed me was an over zealous official barking to us to park in the field and not under the shade of the side of the field on one of the hottest days of the year. Surely first come first served and everyone else was parking there first why wouldnt you? So we did too! Date of review: July 14, 2013
In short: Sweaty In full: I found this race quite tough due to the heat. I took my own water with me and used the water stations to drench myself in. Thankfully there were three water stations and the marshals were very supportive and friendly. Particularly enjoyed being hosed at mile 5 and then at the end after I'd finished (much needed!) Flat course overall except for a few sneaky gentle inclines. The track could be quite tricky at times though when it was stones. Overall very pleased I survived!! Date of review: July 14, 2013
In short: Some like it hot ! In full: I was dreading this race a little after following the weather forecasts all week, and unfortunately we got the expected 30°, and clear blue skies. But despite the sweltering temperatures, this was a well organized race through the forest. Good water stops, loved the hose shower at 5 miles. Stayed for a picnic and thoroughly enjoyed myself. In short: Great race but hot hot hot. In full: Excellent organisation and friendly and encouraging marshals. Plenty of water available on such a hot day. The only thing I don't understand is why they continue with such a late start time in the height of summer? That said, a very enjoyable race, very nice horse brass medal and I'll definitely be back next year. Date of review: July 14, 2013
