In short: Crowds make PB almost impossible In full: Took ten minutes to cross the start line, lack of any form of chip timing makes for disappointing 'official time'. Hardly worth them sending out certificates for. Should be fixed next year when they introduce chip timing. Date of review: November 14, 2004
In short: Never again,my worse experience yet of an event In full: Only do it if you need to tick it off a list, full of walkers, rip off accomadation, taxis everything to expensive.v poor organization, they need to look at the FLM as an example. Date of review: November 10, 2004
In short: It's not a race it's a charity event that involves some running (for some of us anyway!) In full: This was my first GNR and initially I found it very frustrating, it was impossible to run, too many people too crowded, some individuals a walking roadblock within 1 mile of the start! I have changed my mind since, because the experience overall is fantastic, memorable, but it isn't a run, it's much more a charity event that invloves running. When I say running, that means some people try to run, many don't. They get right near the fron and act as a rolling roadblock. thinks it's impossible to anything like a pb in this event. just Date of review: October 21, 2004
In short: A racing INSTITUITION but with 49000 entries you could argue you'd HAVE to be mad to enter... In full: Good atmosphere but very crowded. Frustrating due to people who had not trained starting too near front (hence people walking after 300m!!).
Definitely not one for a PB but the atmosphere and crowd support (plus live bands) means I'll do it all again next year! Date of review: October 20, 2004
In short: Nearly cried everyone running for dad mum grandads etc. The special runners and wheel chairs entrants were inspirational. In full: My first Half. Wonderful. Music every couple of miles. Oggy Oggy Oggy every 1/2. Lots of water stops. Fantastic atmosphere. Geordies are great people. Stayed at Durham. nice place bit more picturesque than Wigan. Nice goodie bag at the end. Will wear my Tshirt with Pride. Well done Newcastle. Date of review: October 14, 2004
In short: Too crowded in - claustrophic, unable to get pace going properly In full: It is the worse half marathon I have ever ran. it is well overcrowded - too many to be a functional race. got off to a good start only to be halted by narrowing roads and too many halted and walking people - makes it a bit of a joke, race wise.Very negative to a constant paced runner - forced to "run" in a down-field position Date of review: October 13, 2004
In short: Great fun poor t-shirt In full: This year was the best of the three I have run. Roll on next year. The crowd are always fantastic at the side of the road. The volunteers at the water stations/ finish deserve their own medal for help/friendliness. Down side for three years the t-shirts have been a big advert for BUPA. I want to wear my t-shirt with pride to show I completed this race not to advertise BUPA. I know it is the taking part not the t-shirt but I still think they could put some effort into the design. Please see Blaydon Race for good examples. Ditto what everyone says about slow race - your time depends on the crowds/hold ups at the start not your personal best. Date of review: October 10, 2004
