In short: Good fun race
In full: This was my first proper race so I didn't really know what to expect at all. But it all seemed fairly simple to get going and great fun when I was going. Both sets of Km markers were out but because of and extra lap around the track at the start they were staggered. Got confused and missed one in the middle somewhere!

In short: Made my usual 'average' pace seem positively beginner-esque.
In full: I've run more competetive runs than I care to remember over the last four or five years - I'm not quick, averaging just over 9 min mile on a good day but this race made me feel like I was the slowest runner ever! I'll usually come in around half way down the timer board but I was in the last 10% on this one with miles between me & the person ahead. I guess this means the standard was VERY high, felt a bit 'elity', sadly, us average runners were made to feel like we were holding everything up. The km markers were changed to read the 2nd lap distance way before I got to them, so KM4 said KM8 - what's wrong with two markers at the same position I wonder? Very odd. Also my usually incredibly accurate Nike+ said the distance was well over 10km, however I cannot believe a race of this standing would have that wrong, they can have the benefit of the doubt on that, my machinery must be up the creek! The course was great, traffic free and perfectly flat (if a little smelly with the tide out!), the support on the course (marshalls/spectators) was non existent except for one wonderful marshall towards the finish (or perhaps he just wanted to get home for tea?!! VERY unfair of me, he was a real gem). Didn't stop for the presentation, facilities were good & goodies bag was really fantastic, aside from the little pot of honey (what's that about?!) there were Nike socks & a Nike headband, just brilliant. Medal awful, but my son liked it! In summary, now I know what to expect I'll probably work hard to improve my time & won't find it such a culture shock, maybe the organisers will make a bit more of an effort to welcome the non elite, we all paid the same fee...

In short: My goodness this is fast - if you don't get a pb here you must be half asleep....
In full: ....or it's blowing a gale. Last night it was not, and I took 20 secs off my pb. Well one to the organisers for coping with the building works in the car park - I understand it got a little congested further back, but not worth cancelling the race for. Welome SIS refreshments and banana - thanks. Great social occaision too - I had to tear myself away from at least two friendsso that I could warm up. Thanks Gerry and co.

In short: A beltingly fast flat PB 5k!
In full: Always a great test of pure speed, and general fitness. The first one of the year blows out some cobwebs for sure. You can get a bit of wind sometimes that can take the edge off your PB, otherwise its fast fast fast! And - congrats to the organisers for handling the disturbances as the Sports Centre is upgraded

In short: A great race for a first-timer, flat, quick and great scenery!
In full: Despite being the last man across the finish line, I throughly enjoyed this race. It had a great atmosphere, and seemed to be populated by runners of all calibers. The organization was prompt, effective and friendly making my first-time nerves that little bit less.

Overall I had a great time, although I must do some speedwork before my next race!
