In short: Very tough, very marvelous
In full: Can only endorse every positive comment others have made. The weather clearly helped and I would hate to attempt this if foggy /wet / cold or all three. A pleasant surprise was the level of support, even at the most remote of spots but especially in the villages - not huge numbers but a quick 'well done' from random strangers certainly helps to keep you going.

In short: I don't want to see another for for a while!
In full: One of the toughest races i have ever done, challenging long hills but the views from the top made it worth while! Wouldn't have wanted to be the guys at back who did limited training or a novice. The atmosphere was good as i think the locals all felt sorry for us. I would certainly run it again but chances of a PB are zero!!!

In short: excellent all round yet again
In full: great marathon - hard on the day but much less recovery time than for a road marathon .managed to run the 2nd steps all the way up for the first time but could hardly run after that so lost time on the last 8 miles. will be back next year and hope they do away with the chip{not really necessary for this one!}. Then they can post the numbers out as usual! Well done Eastbourne!

In short: Unbelievably difficult, with more big hills than you could ever imagine, but really friendly race that's also open to walkers (so you won't come last!)

In short: Great experience but very tough
In full: I trained on lots of hills for this race but it still wasn't enough. The race beat me and I would like to come back one day and have another go at it and do better. Would love to do it without walking and get a sub 4 hour time.
Friendly with good organisation although chip timing makes it overpriced and is unnecessary

In short: Lovely friendly event as ever. Not so keen on pre race registration, but understand admin reasons for this.

In short: Probably the best marathon in the world
In full: and the toughest!

This run is perfect. You feel high on the fun and exhilaration of it, the madness of it, the charm of it, the stunning scenery, the supportive marshals, and the crazy food they provide at each stop. Do you fancy tea and cake, or a hot soup? Everyone is so friendly. It's such a wonderful atmosphere.

I did the Great North Run last month. From the ridiculous to the sublime. From an over-priced, congested, uninspiring and ugly course at Great North to the magnificence and warmth of the Beachy Head. From spending hours in my car trying to get out of the car park at Great North, to a hot shower and a slap up meal before wandering over to the pub at Beachy Head.

People always talk about the toughness of this run, but you don't get people collapsing with exhaustion or heart attacks, and that's because the run is varied - you use different muscle groups on the ups than you do on the downs and on the flats (few flats!), and also because you don't run it flat out, you have to walk at times, and this gives the body time to recover. It's very demanding, but it's not damaging to the body (well, apart from the toe nails because the steep descents push your feet to the front of your shoes!), and the organisers provide plenty of fuel at the checkpoints.

Great race. Legendary.
