In short: A special race
In full: I have done several big city marathons such as London , Paris and New York but in my opinion Loch Ness tops them all...

It's not an easy course but the scenery from start to finish is spectaular and the atmosphere friendly.
The organisers should be congratulated for staging such a special event. From the time I signed-up to post race the organisation was faultless. Thanks to all involved in making this a memorable day.

In short: Thanks for a very special race day
In full: Wow - what a day. Thanks to all the marshalls and organisers - this was a perfect day. Despite a whole heap of pain this was probably my most enjoyable ever. Everything worked great in terms of organisation and even the weather was perfect. I'm sure running with 30,000 others in a "big" marathon is a real kick but this was very special. Highly recommended - the only problem I have is that given this year's event was so good and I got a new PB to boot - it can only be downhill from here!

In short: TOUGH BUT WORTH IT
In full: Have to say this is a very special race, organisation and atmosphere was superb. Was more hilly than I expected, but the scenic route more than made up for that. If you haven't run this yet, a must do. Will be back to look for nessy again soon.

In short: Breathtaking!!!!(in more ways than one!)
In full: This was my second Marathon and a pb!, more hills than i expected but also some fast downhills!hills only really became hard in the latter stages when legs and hips started protesting!
Excellant weather, breathtaking scenery, best tee shirt i ever had, loads lovely goodies, great idea having hot coffee waiting on us at the start and soup and rissotto ready at the finish, and the pipers parading at the start had me welling up!
Lovely volenteers throughout-espec the one who kindly helped me at the finish put all the goodies i was dropping all over the place in my "dazed" "walking with two wooden legs" state into a carrier bag at the end!

Its hard to pick any faults with this marathon as it was just wonderfully organised and beautifully scenic!-if i had to pick one id like a longer straight run into the finish rather than that sharp we corner and then a short run with finish in view.

In short: if you run one marathon in your life make it this one
In full: I decided to run this after 2 hot energy-sapping runs in London and New York and it hit the spot; temperature was around 10-12 degrees with glorious sunshine at the start. The day starts with a couple of thousand runners meeting at 8am to get on the buses in Inverness and an hour later we were dropped at the start. At this point you realise just how fantastic the scenery is. There was an easy bag drop and enough loos for everyone before starting to the sound of bagpipes. The 1st 5 miles are generally downhill but there are a few ups and downs in that time before quite a steep hill around mile 5. Most of the course is under tree cover and that keeps the temperature cool. The views of the Loch are spectacular and although sporadic the locals are very supportive and encouraging. Drink stations were every few miles including lucozade sport and well stocked. A long hill at mile 18 has many people walking and just when you think thats the hard bit over there's another milder hill at 21. you then enter Inverness (where support is plentiful and vocal) and you get a good view of the river Ness and those people ahead of you on the other side as you have to cross a bridge and go back on yourself. The finish is in the athletics stadium and again is well organised. If you drag your family with you on race days they should enjoy this race as they can only really support you at the end and spend the rest of the weekend sightseeing or enjoying the excellent restaurants and shops in Inverness. Everyone I spoke to said they loved the race and would do it again, my sentiments entirely.

In short: Outstanding
In full: This was a wonderful race helped by great weather. Although hilly in parts I still managed a PB having run very little recently so from my perspective it has PB potential. The organisation, scenery, atmosphere etc was great.
If it could be improved it would be to silence the annoying and patronising announcer at the start and do away with the waste of time warm-up routine. A straighter entry to the stadium avoiding the sharp dogleg would also assist the final run in. Well done to the organisers though. I'll certainly do it again.

In short: A great race. Stunning scenery, and some really nice touches - like when they announced people's names over the tannoy as they came into the stadium. I know I'm a slowcoach, but as I crossed the finish line it made me feel like a champion.
