In short: Excellent organisation, very pretty views, a few steady hills. In full: My first 10k for over a year. A good race to shake out the cobwebs and the organisation was super slick. Date of review: February 3, 2013
In short: Tough for a first-timer! In full: This was my first proper race and the first time I have ever ran 10k (even in training)! I can't fault the organisation, everything seemed to go off without a hitch, and it was great to get a print out of your race stats as you cross the line! It's a beautiful but tough course with 3 tough hills, but despite this I really enjoyed it and will be back next year to beat my time. Date of review: February 16, 2012
In short: Amazing race, magnificent scenery, brilliantly organised - can't fault In full: This was my first time at Longleat. I've done one road 10k previously and a few trail runs so wasn't sure what to expect. The signs for parking at the event were very clear with plenty of parking. The set up of the race with sub 40 then sub 45 etc was such a good idea as we could start where we felt comfortable. There were a lot of 'serious runners' so I was a little scared of coming last. However I got round in 1 hour 4 minutes (so not quite last). The three hills were challenging but were manageable to run up. I thought the ground was exceptionally clear considering the snow fall the day before. I ran in trainers and was fine. I thought the marshals were fantastic - very encouraging. The crowd were great. The last 1k was brillinat - downhill all the way to the finish. Fab goody bag and medal and exact time logged. Highly recommend. Bargain. Will definitely be back next year. I have never been to an event before that was so well organised. Date of review: February 7, 2012
In short: I LOVE THIS RACE! In full: Given the icy hills I actually knocked 9 (!) Mins off last years time and now have a new 10k pb!
The toilets are toilets.....I don't know what people expect. As the weather the day before was snowy I thought the course was actually remarkably clear. The organisation was good and the medal was 100 times better than last year. I've had worse goody bags but then the bag isn't the reason why I run!
I will run this race again and again and again! Date of review: February 7, 2012
In short: Good race to blow the cobwebs away. Not for the feint hearted. In full: Quite a surprise that this event took place given the weather conditions the day before. However the sun made an appearance which allowed the temperature to rise to acceptable levels, making an enjoyable race. People should adjust their gear according to the likly conditions underfoot! Road shoes just dont cut it on snow / ice. . Date of review: February 6, 2012
In short: A first race!! Am I mad?? In full: This was my first ever race and to say I've been working hard at training is an understatement. However, no matter how hard I trained, I dont think it would have prepared me enough for the hills! Oooh don't I ever ache today. BUT, the location is gorgeous, I love Longleat anyway and the atmosphere was fab. I was exceptionally uplifted on the final straight, running towards Longleat house and the finish line in the sunshine made me run faster than I ever have before! A lovely day and a fab run.... but next year I know what to expect :) Date of review: February 6, 2012
In short: the hills will make you hurt! In full: Glorious setting, and lovely route not at all dull even though you do run the same small section of it twice. Ran past deer and spotted a heron flying overhead, very picturesque
Hills are an absolute killer though! Proud to have run the whole thing even though at times trying to scrabble up the icy, snow covered first hill would probably have been quicker if i'd walked!
Once you get past 8k you knwo it's down hill and home all the way and that is a lovely way to end a race.
Nice goody bag, lion head medal, and yummy banana recovery drink, also really enjoyed the free sample of muscle rub which I duly applied!
Would do again, if only to see if I can better my time (1hr2mins) but wouldn't recommend as a 1st 10k, maybe 3rd or 4th would be better Date of review: February 6, 2012
