In short: Classic Ultra - a must-do race!
In full: Superb organisation, the best scenery, supporters, marshalls etc are out of this world. One of the most enjoyable races ever. Top-notch momento, killer ups and downs but one hell of a ride.

In short: Could be the race of the year
In full: This is the second time I have ran this race. 2006 was hot and for various reasons I wasn't as prepared for this race as well as I should have been - but I was this year.

Here is my take on the various distinguishing points about this race.

Hills. Its Dartmoor and so there are hills!! The route descends into Asburton before climbing back up to the centre of Dartmoor, and there are descents (and therefore ascents) on the way to little villages nestled in the valleys. If you dont like hills dont do this race! However, they do add to the challenge, and seemed to be a bit easier this time!

Scenery. You will find it harder to beat the views. There are moorland views, tors, valleys woods and villages. This year there was mist clouding some of the tors that just added to the atmosphere.

Atmosphere. The support is amazing. Some runners have support teams and after the first 10 miles you start recognising them all and waving each time you pass them. There are other people on bikes offering drinks and snacks, now thats something you dont get in the FLM!!

Challenge. its only 6 miles more than a marathon, but as most finishers would say it takes about half again as long, and is at least half again as hard! Enter this race and you wont regret it.

Bad points. If anyone can think of any please let me know.

In short: excellent introduction to ultra
In full: my first attempt at more than 26.2 miles, and what a glorious day it was. Perfect weather, fantastic scenery, and really good support and conversation from all the other runners. Well done to the marshals and organisers for making this such a memorable and fantastic event. Dartmoor is beautiful.

In short: This race just gets better & better. I've already printed off an entry form for next year!
In full: If you like your races on the short side over a flat fast course through urban streets with ranks of cheering supporters, this is not for you. But if you are looking for wonderful scenery offering a real challenge where it's just you against yourself and the course, look no further. That's not to say that you are completely on your own. The field of 160 was at least equalled by the number of marshals, officials and helpers who all contributed to a fantastically smoothly run race. Not to mention the runners' families & friends dotted around the course who cheered & encouraged everyone, and that special camaraderie between fellow competitors who know only too well what each one is going through.

This was my third consecutive DD, and I intend to be back next year to make it number 4.

In short: It was a fun run after all!
In full: It was as hard as hell with some monster hills but I enjoyed every minute of it and am so proud to have completed the race in 5hrs57. I'm already looking forward to another crack at improving the time next year.

Wonderful organisation. Very friendly. Beautiful scenery and what a sense of achievement. Highly recommended!
