In short: You need to be insane!! Very tough but what a feeling to complete the course! In full: My first full off-roader and it looks like I started with one of the toughest. Definitely not for the faint hearted, its tough and definitely dangerous in places. It took an enormous amount of concentration to keep picking the best ground and avoid slipping and falling. Think I'd start a bit nearer the front next time as there were early bottle-necks around gateways and swamps and some areas of the course are narrow and difficult to over-take on. The hills are enormous and more of a climb than a run. I'm glad I invested in proper off-road shoes, the people in road shoes really looked to be struggling. Well organised and great spirit out there. I took a big fall in the Gully and several runners were quick to call out to check if I was ok and this type of support was in evidence all around the course. When people slipped, fell or struggled, other runners were quick to support them. Unique event and I'd definitely do this or something similar again. Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: First off road race and first Terminator. What a introduction, thought the conditions didn't help, never seen mud like it. But a great sense of achievement and would do it again Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: Just too muddy to really be enjoyed. In full: I cannot fault the organisation on the day, the marshall were great, even the cows in the fields seems to be friendly. The race lived up to everything i had expected, big hills and mud, but running conditions on some parts of the course were impossible. The section along the canal was ridiculous. I saw 2-3 people nearly go into the canal. I think a bit more focus on safety is needed. I was knocked over by somebody flying uncontrollable down one of the hill, and i am nursing a very sore rib today because of it. It wasn't irresonsible running either, no grip and too much mud. The safety is the only reason i would have to think twice about doing this again. I wouldn't want to risk more serious injury by doing it again! Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: Mud, mud and more mud then three killer hills In full: my understanding from the vets in the race was that this was the muddiest race ever. The mud made it feel more like a trek than a run. It was very hardcore, but the atmosphere (even at the back) was great. Kudos to the organisers and marshalls who made the race a lot of fun despite the challenging conditions. In short: A wonderful sunday morning stroll (and wade!) In full: Having completed the Tough Guy a few weeks ago I thought that a simply 11mile run would hold no terrors for me, how wrong I was! A nice warm up through the village then straight into muddy fields/slipper tow paths/muddy hills/verticle muddy hills/muddy fields/muddy descents and a freezing cold plunge in a river.
Avoiding the mud was a major challenge, avoiding people floundering in the mud even more so. How no one went in the canal is beyond me. Going up the hills was very hard, espcially the gully with it's thicky gloopy mud resisting every attempt to lift your foot for the next step. But for every hill we went up there was a magnificent descent to follow. The terrain meant that there was a lot of time for banter with other runners/plodders, adding to the enjoyment of the event.
The whole course was well marked out, with a lot of very cheerful marshals and onlookers urging us on. The ones by the final 'bath' were obvious sadists though, reminding us to "smile for the camera" as the freezing water turned legs to lead.
The final run in was probably the most painful physical experience of my life. Running down a small alleyway at the back of a row of houses shouldn't hurt like that, but hurt it did.
The facilities were excellent, you could gripe about the showers being a little low (obviously designed for school kids) but they were lovely and hot and just what was needed.
A wonderful race, great fun and definatly one to repeat. Tougher then tough guy........I didn't stop smiling once! Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: I think someone may have mentioned the mud... In full: My first Terminator and I thought it was brilliant!!! You'll have heard there was lots of mud - I was suprised how many people we running in road shoes, you really need off road/fell shoes to give some traction (I had Inov8 mudrocks). The first part running through fields was a little dull, but then we were out towards the Downs and things got more interesting!
The marshalls and the general organisation was fantastic... I'll be back. Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: How much mud?!!! In full: Fantastic race, the most challenging so far and hard and better that the Hellrunner. This was a brilliant race, the hills felt like mountains on the legs but at least you knew what goes up must come down! Very tough but well marshalled, oganised and the thought of the delicious cakes and coffee at the end spurred me on! Will definatley be back next year but have decided to get good off-road trainers as it was a very slippy race! Fantastic!!! Date of review: February 26, 2007
