In short: First half marathon and it was great In full: Beats running around the streets any day, interesting views (but watch your feet), friendly company, okay weather. Sure there were some niggles, but nothing really bad, okay the queue for the ladies was way baaaad, and my timing chip obviously didn't work at the start. But I'll be back. In short: I'm coming back for the hat-trick next year(completions that is not wins's) In full: First off,
I would like to thank god that it didnt rain, although it was windy it didnt interfere to much with the race, seems like the problems from last year were ironed out and for me it went like clockwork, the buses done thier job and the rest seemed to follow, slight change of route this year and with the new cycle path open it meant that the road didnt need to be closed, which im sure the organisers were happy about, the gates on the cycle track are obviously there for a reason but they did take your pace/stride from you when trying to negotiate them, and the finishing straight although a bit shorter than last year, it was certainly easier on the feet.
All in all another well organised event and for sure i will be back next year. Thanks.
Oh by the way 1:38:03 according to my garmin. think the chip timing is a bit out, and i was only 30 secs slower than last year, but after my mare at the start of the week, im delighted

In short: Great support ....thank you runners & volunteers. Keep the feedback coming!! Next year it'll be perfect and I'll book better weather In full: FUNDS RAISED FOR SPEYSIDE TRUST CHARITY
……currently on target to reach £14,000.
This will help to fund up to 70 places for people with profound disabilities to enjoy an outdoor holiday at Badaguish Respite Care Centre.
Well done everyone…….. please help by getting the funds to us as fast as you can.
A MESSAGE TO OUR COMPETITORS
YES THERE’S LESSONS TO LEARN FOR NEXT YEAR ….so keep those comments coming! (no pain no gain)
…..like how can the same number of people drink 30% more water ? …..or how many toilets do you need so every runner can go for a pee 3 times ? ….prize for the best polite answer.
…..try thinking how lucky we all are.
…..much stormier and we’d have had a cancelled washout.
HEARTFELT THANKS to our heroic volunteer stewards.
….if you think running the half marathon was tough try setting up the tented water stops and finish in a gale.
A message from the organiser……….
I kind of liked the comment about …….’could do better’……. and yes we will next year. Sorry to any runners who chose the wrong event and don’t like the real outdoors!
(OK so I haven’t quite finished licking my wounds yet.)
All the best til 2009. Yours Andrew.

In short: Magnicent race setting for a hilly race. Organisation better than last year but still poor in a few areas. In full: Having learnt from last year, we ignored the 7am-9am registration time and arrived in Aviemore at around 9:15am - perfect. No problem registering leisurely, sorting out kit, bag-tag, etc. and getting on a bus (plenty of these). Got to the start area at 10am, so plently of time to chat, have a cuppa, stroll about, use the "behind the trees" toilets (woeful lack of toilets for 1200 runners) and warm-up. Thankfully there was chip-timmng mat at the start this year (it only took me a few seconds to get to this, but others would have been a minute or two). My race was rather spoilt by a ridiculous trip on the road section just before 5 miles - I have never hit the ground so hard - blood on hands, elbow, knee, and lots of grit embedded too, which the tweezers are still working on. Recovered fairly quickly and took it easy for a bit. Once I stopped limping, I picked up the pace and eventually had to stop three miles later to re-tie the offending shoelace (I've now trimmed them). The last five miles were actually great and I really enjoyed the downhill (mostly) trail section to the finish, despite the many changes of direction and steeplecross nature of the various obstacles. No complaints about water running out since I was near the front, but I did notice that these had only two people on them, so can only imagine the carnage later on. No goody bag at the end, no showers either, although the free massage made up for this. Will enter asap for next year's race (March 09 should be when entries open). Date of review: October 20, 2008

In short: Great event, though the water stations need looking at for next year In full: Toilets at the start were inadequate, the water stations need a bit of a rethink and the goodies at the end were a bit sparce, last years medal was far better. That said the improvements to the course were great and the organisers obviously listeneded to the gripes about the awful last half mile and changed that for the better this year. All in all a great event, I'm sure the comments will be taken on board for next year. I'll be back! Date of review: October 20, 2008

In short: Nice race because of the scenary. Well away from roads, through some great Scottish woodland In full: Great atmosphere amongst the runners at the start, a good laugh with everyone looking forward to the race. Great course to enjoy running in the Scottish countryside. Toilet facilities at the start were inadequate for the numbers running. Only a cheap (and I mean cheap!) medal and a chocolate bar at the end. Not very good value for money overall. Date of review: October 20, 2008

In short: beautiful scenery, great atmosphere. Not enough toilets at start and water stations were dreadful. In full: If I had been in good shape I would have really enjoyed this race. The route is fantastic, the scenery beautiful, great support en route, efficient bus service to start. Prize giving was excellent and on-time. A few gripes however - not nearly enough toilets at start for size of field. I had to queue at the water stations to get water - if I had been racing for a time this would have been even more annoying. The showers at the finish were locked!!! I had to make do with baby wipes. And what happened to chip timing? - I presume the results on display at the prize giving were only gun times? Date of review: October 20, 2008

In short: still my favourite race ever In full: I love this race. Did the first one in 2006, missed last year as had just had my wee girl but back this year. Course harder now that it's not just straight down the ski road and the head wind this year was a killer. It was great value for money too. Date of review: October 20, 2008
