In short: Excellent event, interesting course good food stations and friendly checkpoint people. Really enjoyed this and can highly recommend. I did the 50k but liked the way that it was mixed up with others doing different distances. Date of review: August 11, 2014
In short: 50k review In full: Plenty of water stations - many with cake/sweets Marshals friendly, and well positioned. Course we'll marked - only one arrow missing. There were (as far as I could tell) none of the problems pointed out by other reviewers (10k etc) of this year's event. Perfect mix (for me) of on/off road sections. Well supported - particularly at finish Free showers available 2 minutes away at leisure centre Parking free and convenient Date of review: August 11, 2014
In short: 10k Debacle. No signs or marshals after 8k. Wasted time running in circles around Salisbury. In full: This could, and should, have been a great run - indeed it was, right up to the 8k point. Thereafter the directions stopped, the marshals were nowhere to be seen and small groups of runners milled around in groups trying to figure out the route to the finish. The group I was with had to resort to asking a dog walker for directions. Time and effort wasted all round.
I would be more than happy to be contradicted here, if it was just me being an idiot and getting lost then I would happily suck it up and move on. However the non-existent directions (and a route that bore little relation to the published course) led to widespread confusion for many runners.
You can probably sense my frustration here and, like I say, I stand to be corrected. However I, and many others, paid £22.00 to run in confused circles around northern Salisbury while any chance of a decent 10k time ebbed away.
At least it stopped raining just before the start. Date of review: August 10, 2014
In short: OK - but lack of water, signs and accurate mile/km was a problem In full: I ran the 30k race. Could have been good - but there is a lot of confusion and congestion from the number of events bunching up in the rfirst half. 30k event had no water or km markers for much of the race. I got lost in Salisbury due to lack of signs and overall found the race quite painful. For a trail run there was a lot of roads and traffic. Turned out to be 34k not 30k. In short: Amazing course, well marshalled, lots of stops and not too hilly In full: A great choice for your first Ultra. Many people just walked the hills to save energy for the rest. Took in lovely views and was really nice to catch-up with other runners doing different distances. Watch out for the wicked woods where the Mad Hatter would be at home :) Date of review: September 6, 2013
In short: Brilliant race! In full: Completed this as my first marathon. Really good organisation, frequent water stations, lovely scenic course and friendly runners. If only all events could be run like this. Date of review: August 12, 2013
In short: Well organisd (complex) event with gorgeous scenery In full: Opted for the half this year and glad I did, as I suspect I wouldn't have enjoyed any more miles... Lovely scenery, very well organised event, complicated by the multi-distance and the walk or run options. Only real niggle - perhaps some marshals through the city as it was not easy to follow the route. I nearly went off route (as I know Salisbury well) but was corrected by another runner and my wife did go wrong. Plus the lack of mile markers after 9 miles for the 21K was annoying (must be possible to put some out). Otherwise thanks for a great race. Date of review: August 12, 2013
In short: great day In full: Really enjoyed the marathon great location. Marshalls and organisation was superb. Coming back with my son next year, he will be doing his first half marathon...Looking forward to it already Date of review: August 12, 2013
