In short: Well organised, A real XC run, loved it. In full: What a great XC run, conditions were quite heavy under foot and the stream crossings made for an interesting event. I loved the conditions and this made for a great challenge. Nice to do a real xc run. Marshals wear great and will do this run again, Keep up the good work. Date of review: February 16, 2009
In short: Very Muddy In full: Good fun especially crossing the streams. One was to top of thighs, two knee deep... the organisers spared us the waist deep crossing. very muddy in parts with the potential to lose your shoes in places, most other times my feet were twice there normal size because of the mud. Marshalls friendly and the race itself was very enjoyable. Date of review: February 15, 2009
In short: Lots of Mud, A few streams but no major hills In full: Very well marshalled with lots of encouragement from them to. At times my trainers felt like they had a ton of mud on each of them. Good Fun. Date of review: February 15, 2009
In short: A bit disappointed In full: Entered the Hardwick X-Stream because a previous race in August had such a great review on Runner's World. But the parking was a shambles, there weren't enough loos, the course was extremely challenging, there were no mile/km markers and just a tiny cup of water at the end.
On the plus side, the course was well marshalled by enthusiastic folk and the area was quite pretty. But neither of those things were quite enough to bring me over the line with a smile on my face. Date of review: February 15, 2009
In short: Nice course, but after last year's reviews a bit disappointing In full: Reading previous positive reviews on this race, I was a bit disappointed on the day. The course itself was great fun - very wet and muddy with friendly marshalls. On the downside: - Massive queue for the loos, 3 for 250 runners - Race started 10 minutes late; not criminal, but was cold to be standing around (probably those loo queues!) - Villagers scowled as we drove in; they obviously didn't like being invaded by loads of runners - Mostly "proper" runners taking part, not ideal for fun runners - Had to park and get changed afterwards in a farm, with loads of dirt and dung - Massive queue for the tea afterwards - didn't bother
So, all in all, doesn't get the thumbs up like the Grim Challenge and Commando Challenge. Like I say, I loved the run itself, but not particularly everything else that went with it.
In short: Good race , well marshalled, In full: A good morning out not to hard. Managed to go over on my ankle with in the first ten minutes and still finished, nice horse brass at the end Date of review: February 19, 2008
In short: An unsantised cross country run. In full: Good weather conditions took the edge of what is normally a grim exercise in self-flagellation. That's its attraction. Times will be faster this year given the 'good' conditions. Stream was as wet as ever. Having to literally slide down into the stream on one occasion was quite memorable.
