In short: Very good race In full: I ran the lydd half marathon today, this was the first time I had ran this particular race. I am training hard for the London marathon which is in a few weeks, and it was an excellent training race.
It was nice to see Raynet there, it always makes you feel safe a secure to know they can radio for help should any one need it.
The course was flat, so it was good for PB and speed, and I would also recomend this race to someone that would like to try a half marathon for the first time.
Towards the end of the race, at about 3 miles to go, a man in a white van drove along checking that runners where ok, which was a nice touch.
It was nice to see ST.Johns lending a hand today as well. And I noticed them go and help someone out towards the end.
I was glad that there was chip trimming, it's always nice to have it. Especially when you are training for a big event.
It was great to be able to help yourself to Jaffa cakes at the end.... There is always something nice about having them at the end of a big race!
We where lucky with the rain, it held off till I was on the motor way, in my nice warm car!
I would say that this is one of the best events I have run via nice work so far.
I hope this event is on again next year.
Thank you nice work for a brill event! Date of review: March 10, 2013
In short: The best race in the calendar In full: Congratulations to the organisers, all the helpers and the good people of Lydd for hosting a fantastic event. Everything was well organised, people were really friendly, both at the start and around the course. The goodies after the event surpass those offered by other pricier events; and I've never been so pleased to see a jaffa cake. An outstanding event Date of review: March 10, 2013
In short: Flat, flat and flat! Great PB potential In full: A great race, big loop of the country side, passing farms got a bit smelly but it's the countryside - what else do you expect!? 99% flat and definitely a PB course - results available within a few minutes of finishing - well put together... 2 small things I never liked - running round a small enclosed area at the start just to make up the full 13.1 mile distance, and the t-shirt at the end was grey - looks more like a brickies top rather than a running techy t-shirt! In short: As a local runner it was nice to have a lay in and walk to the race. In full: I ran some of the route the weekend before in the rain....so what an improvement in the weather...well done Martin well organised.....I saw lots of locals at the start encouraging the runners ......this race has improved over the last few year :) Date of review: March 17, 2012
In short: Great race for my first half-marathon. Well done to the team. In full: Entered the race with some trepidation as my first half-marathon distance, but a really nice run. Very flat - probably made me set out a bit quickly, so legs were struggling over the last 3 miles. Nice t-shirt, good organisation. Shame that runners still ignore the advice and were leaving the parking area while runners were still finishing - rather selfish on their part. One to run again. Good work, Nice Work!! In short: Local fast and flat run across the marshes In full: Enjoyed this race very much; having never run it before. As usual, my positive/negative breakdown:
Positivies * Cost - Cheaper than some 10K's I have run, and more than worth the price when you consider all the goodies thrown in * Course - Superbly flat, and a real test of how fast you can run the distance. Wonder if it's possible to chop a bit of the grass at the start off and increase the turn around point outside the pub. This wasn't a problem as the weather was gorgeous, but in wet weather this may cause a very slippery start! * Location - nice and quiet, saw one car in the 90 minutes I was running, roads are as good-as-closed! * Date - I haven't done this race in previous years as it has been the week before Hastings Half, the highlight of my year. Two weeks before Hastings is the perfect time, even with tired legs from Eastbourne the week before
Negatives * Only negative I have was the turn around point directly outside the front door of a pub... Honestly Martin, you do tease us!
I will be back next year if the race is 2 weeks before Hastings again. A brilliant testing course which I enjoyed immensely. I honestly enjoyed this more than Eastbourne the week before, which was £7 more expensive - and as you can see from my review there, it wasn't as if I didn't enjoy it there! Superb effort all! In short: Really enjoyed it, the weather was perfect and the kids loved the pre race fun run. In full: I thought the organisers got it just right with this one, friendly and not corporate. Easy to get a PB, the only down side was that the chip timing was a minute slower than my stop watch which was too much of an issue as I knocked more than 6 minutes off my best. Excellent. In short: Enjoyed this one! In full: Not sure whether to do this race after reading mixed reveiws from previous years.Delighted I did. Parked in the town to avoid the risk of interfering with runners on departure - good move, and only a 2 minute walk. Plenty of helpers with pre-race entries and chip collection. HQ basic, but adequate. Course pancake flat, but with enough turns to avoid a never-changing vista. If you can't get a PB here (and I didn't!), you never will! Ample and helpful marshals. Chocolate, bananas, water at finish, and nice medal and excellent t-shirt. Only gripe is that something has gone astray with the time/place recording, and I don't appear in the provisional results! Not something to get too agitated about, as I'm sure the ever-helpful Martin will resolve sooner rather than later Date of review: March 13, 2012
