In short: The organisers did try hard to make the race enjoyable but the absence of mile markers and only having a water station at the start/finish did let the organiserss down. Date of review: March 10, 2008

In short: Poor In full: Road race! take out all the gravel/grass and yes it would have been.
Had it been raining it would have been a disaster and a serious H&S issue.
I was told after regestering that there would be a presentation at 11.45 before heading to the start. This came and went, when everone decided to head to the start (not sign posted) then the race started very late.
Poor! Date of review: March 10, 2008

In short: Disappointing, dispriting, discouraging In full: Firstly, I must say that I am no great runner but I am experienced, having taken part in many half marathons and two marathons. With this event the venue was good but I had no sense of achievement on completion as the meagre goodies were available to anyone with a race number and not to finishers as advertised. I am not whingeing about the lack of mile markers but to some of us they are a real boost and motivation and are a definite requirement. There was not a PA system... and to start a race of this potential with a shouted "Go" and not a blast from an air horn or even a car horn was a sign of the lack of commitment to the event. Active marshalling was not a feature of this event either. About halfway along the course, as I was running past a group of marshals, I took a wrong turn and another thoughtful runner called me back but no directions came from the marshals. A mile or two from the end of the course when all runners ahead of me had disappeared ( I said I was no great runner) I came to a criss-crossing of various routes; an arrowed cone had fallen over and I did not know which direction to take. I ran around the several paths to try to ascertain the route. I then shouted to the air "Which way should I go?" No answer came the reply. Why? The marshals had packed up and gone. On finishing the run I hung around at the end and some runners came in saying they could hear me calling for directions but were too far away to reply. I had seen them with the sweeper bus. Now this is the question I wish to ask the organisers, "If it is necessary for a cyclist to guide the leading runner who was working to his maximum through the course so that he does not take a wrong turn then why can't I and other runners have marshalling guidance at all the key junctions of the course when I am running to my maximum ability and effort for twice the time. Did those front runners pay more than I did to enter the race? I doubt it. On a value-for-money basis the event was not good; at best a mediocre show and tri-active must worry as now I am doubting their commitment and value-for-money in their consumer organisation. In short: Fast course, good for spectators, need tomake more of it In full: Plus: fast course, good for spectators, laps made for good race planning, useful giveaway (socks - not another t-shirt) Minus: need better way to complete health and safety stuff (not enough check-in staff - why not post form out?), have more stands/stuff for spectators to do, make finish line clearer, where were results posted? Overall: the organisers could make more of the facilities and ease of access; this has the potential to be a fixture in the calendar

In short: Good first attempt at putting this race on. Look forward to next year In full: This was an inaugural race so for a first time it went well. The course is good and the fact it is 3 laps making pacing fairly easy. for those whinging about mile markers, come on, thecourse was 4.27 miles, you can work out how fast you need to do each lap and you should know your own pace from training. The onsite registration was a bit hit and miss but I am sure they will sort that out for next year. I hope they do the race again. As for people complaining about the cost you got free socks out of it worth £9 to the race actually cost £7 which isn't bad Date of review: March 10, 2008

In short: No mile markers and poor value for money let down what could be a good race In full: Distance markers are an essential for any race so not too have them is an immediate severe black mark in my book. I also did not understand why even those who had their number had to que to register on the day, surely by signing up we have fulfilled any health and safety requirements. £16 is also a bit steep when all you get is a pair of socks which were obviously provided by the sponsor. That said there were positives which almost redeemed the race, I liked the course challenging but interesting set in a nice enviroment. Very spectator freindly due to the multiple laps and a place for them to get refreshments. In conclusion a MUST do better, if I hear next year there are mile markers and its better value for money I'll be back. Date of review: March 10, 2008
